Maryland? Why can't we just use Ming's basement again?

Sid is unlikely to consent to be imprisoned in Ming's dungeon.

Open scene in sun-lit meadows with civ'ers enjoying a cold one and getting along. The honoured guests feel... honoured. Light begins to fail, and the party is moved indoors.

The party continues. One and all continue to bask in the joy of the occassion...

          Que music turning metal.

          Que the Grand Inquisitor, Yin.

Yin steps forth from the shadows.

'Vy is there still settler spam, hmmm? Vee shall cure you of that...'

Poly convention in Ming's basement ends on a bad note.

          The end.

This space is empty... or is it?

Will do, re: contacting Sid/Brian. Whether or not Sid and/or Brian are able to attend, I believe the convention should go ahead otherwise. The itinerary would just change accordingly, of course.

Thanks for the note and offer, re: hotels. Anyone know of any reputable hotels in (or in the immediate vicinity of) Baltimore that could possibly accomodate us? I realize we don't have any idea of #'s at this point, but we have to start somewhere.

From my experience, hotels are darned expensive for renting conference rooms. Perhaps we could pull off an in-house deal at either Firaxis or BHG.
For accommodation, however, Holiday Inn is a personal favorite

Regarding a meeting with Sid or Brian: of course they are the big names, but I suppose it'd be great too if other developers were willing to share some of their time with us.

This issue really needs more publicity. Mark/Dan, can you publish a forum-wide announcement on this convention once the Poly-7 festivities have died down.
If we can actually get 100 to 200 people to attend this, sponsorship options might become available to fund the project.

Absolutely -- already on the "to do" list. The same goes for a (hopefully) European circuit.

I'd even be happy with Soren or some of the other Firaxians that visit poly if Sid wasn't available.

Oh, and count me in. I mentioned it to my wife and she said "Well, you have to go." So apparently I have too....

You make Soren sound like "second prize"...

Seriously though, yes, the offer will be extended to anyone and everyone at Firaxis and BHG.

This would be a great thing to do. Not sure if I'll be able to afford it... but I'll certainly see if I can pull some funds together (could always get a small loan).

Failing that... an Aussie polymeet to coincide?

As far as I am aware, no one has mentioned such a gathering to coincide with the North American and European one, but if there is enough interest and someone willing and able to volunteer to co-ordinate an effort...

I wonder what the cost of a video conference would be o Europe and Austrailia? Anyone have experience there? We could video conference Sid/Brian/Soren and hold the conventions at the same time.
