Lacking diplomacy options

why can't you ask AI's to make peace with some other faction, or trade cities in multiplayer?

Is there any way to make this possible?

No way to trade cities between human pplayers without vendetta/conquest.

I thought you could ask an AI to call off a vendetta with another human. Hmmm... Are you sure you cannot?

Well, I had the Gaians and the Hive submissive to me, but I couldn't keep them from trying to wipe out my girlfriend.
Had to send expeditionary forces to keep everyone from killing each other...
