    PuddlewatchHQ,

Since you're the one sending me turns, make sure you zip those files before you send them, it would make my life soooooo much easier.

    thanx

Yes I am zipping the files. I just hope I actually saved my game turn correctly as the only saved game file for a multi game was named the same as the file that SpasmofiT mailed me. I wonder if it automatically saves in the same file?

So is the file I sent the right one?

It's easy guys. If you make a thread in AC-Multiplaying forum looking for players, and give me a pm, I'll top it for some little time.

Apologies for crashing into this thread guys - but Solver is a hard man to reach nowadays so you have to seize the moment

It's easy guys. If you ... give me a pm

Not that easy Solver, I'm afraid. I've been trying to PM you all day. Here's the message I'm getting:

This user's mailbox is currently full, and cannot be sent any messages until it is cleaned out. An email has been sent notifying the user of this. Please try your request at a later time.

Also your email is unreliable because that seems to be full too

We are waiting for Strife, you've had it for a week now. Thanks in anticipation ...

It took me almost 24 hours to play the first turn......

            this is what happened:

I got the file from PuddlewatchHQ (btw do you have a shorter version of this nic?) and as usual I unzipped it and out it into the catalogue for MP games, the I started my game and I loaded it..... nothing, something is wrong the computer told me. So I thought okey... what's wrong?

Maybe some virus? At this time I had to leave home for a few hours. I got back 4 hours later and tried again... the same thing - something is wrong the program can't load the game. so what now, I email back and asked for a resent.... and waited. the next day (about 8 or so hours later) I tried again, nothing so what now, I decided to reinstall the game. So I did that. Tried again.... you guessed it nothing!!! So now I thought I have to bring in the big guns. I uninstall the hole thing and reinstall it, nothing, I unistall again and throw the entire thing out (which includes all my SP saved games and records) and I reinstal the game. Now the game doesn't even start!
What could be wrong, I thought. Of cause I have to reinstall the ENTIRE game not just SMACX.... and it suddenly comes to me!

It wasn't a SMACX game, it's a SMAC game. After reinstalling and all that I could finally (and easily I might add) play the first turn and send it forward.

              Knowhow2,

Ouch, sounds aweful but I'm glad you got it working.

My second turn has been sent to Knowhow2 now. Tau was good enough to give me some help about where to find the saved game from the multi game. It was located in the general SMAC folder and not the saved games folder. This particular quirk threw me into confusion for a bit.

Sorry about the long wait. I have things down now as far as the technical stuff is concerned.

just a little tip from a veteran ...

most of us set up a desktop file - mine is called "firaxis saves". When a turn comes in, and you download from the e-mail attachment, download to this file (some e-mails automatically unzip it as well)

When loading the game, direct it to look for the save on your desktop (it's easier if you apply the windows-box mod from the readme file) - every time after that it'll look there for the savegame to load. (Using the windows-box mod makes for easy deletion of old turns both on loading, and on saving too)

When finished the turn, I save to the desktop file as well, completely bypassing the programs/firaxis games/sid meiers .../saves routine

Zipping is then a blast, with only one level (desktop) to search for the file, and attaching to an e-mail is easy too, as (at least for my AOL) the default for a file attachment is the desktop itself.

Can't even begin to estimate how many hours I've saved this way this past year in all my PBEMs (versus my convoluted way of saving everything in the smac directory before)

(and forgive my ramblings if this is what you do anyway)

                  Googlie

                    PuddleWatchHQ,

you sent me not a turn but a program of some sort and I can't load the file as a "saved game". And another thing, it's great you post the turns at apolyton but we have another thread for the game "ASPK". So post there in the future.

                      KnowHow2,

I thought this was the designated thread for the game? I lost track of the other thread a week ago. It's in the multiplayer forum right

Turn sent again. It should work this time as it is not a self extracting archive this time.

                      Googlie,

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to set it up like that. I already paste my saved games to the desktop but if there is an easier way I'm all for it.
