I got one more SMAXer on the way. Better drop Radagst, and get in another game, for SMAC classics only. Sorry, Rad, but let's make this one SMAX then, if you don't mind.
What's your best result vs. the AI, I mean what's the highest AI level you've ever beaten.

I have beaten the AI on transcend. (I hope you were talking to me LOL)

Oh and if this is a SMax game I think that there should be no aliens under human control. That is a pretty standard rule elsewhere but again I will play with whatever the group decides. Even under AI control it can be totally unbalancing when a battle ogre comes knocking at your base on turn 10 LOL. I think most MP games eliminate the aliens altogether.

        Cbn,
Exactly. Humans are never allowed to be aliens in PBEMs.

My only big question is on whether it will be random factions (this is how I play single-player)or if we get to choose ( I have many favorites) . I will play any settings at all but if we are talking PREFERENCES well here they are:

                  1. A large map so its not an immediate slugfest but not extra huge-- will it be a randomly generated map ?? thats my preference since its more fun to discover terrain rather than play known territory

                  2. Anything goes on rainfall, ocean coverage etc but extra fungus/native life can be fun (I call Cult LOL)-

                  3. LEVEL -- any
                  4. Blind research ? Sure might be fun
                  5. Unity scattering ? This means no pods scattered right?? I never played that way before but am willing-- it does lessen the value of early exploration -- In Smax I found that one of the things that compensated for the Cults deficiencies was the ability to explore fast and pop pods-- However pod pops can be unbalancing and add to the luck factor

6.Unity Survey -- OFF-- You should only see that which you explore
                  7. Look First -- Don't matter
                  8. Extra units --probably no-- you must be very careful to balance this-- 9. extra techs -- again no unless there is great care taken in balancing this

These are just my thoughts. If I end up with Miriam (my least favorite) on an arid island all alone-- so be it. I just want to play.

One thing we might want to explore. In another PBEM game I am in, we spent a couple of hours playing direct connection before switching back to PBEM. In 2 hours we played 17 turns each and got past most of the boring stuff where you really have few decisions to make. Its just a thought since i found, when I started my very first PBEM a few weeks back, that the early turns were pretty dull. You spend time zipping, loading etc for about 30 seconds of playtime LOL. Again just a suggestion as a way to get the game quickly into the interesting stuff. Even just a single session to get us into the good stuff might be good.

Once the game is set up we can assess if people are interested. I only have done direct play once but it is very easy . If there is some interest we could compare schedules and pick a time. Solver-- I am assuming that direct connection is permitted in your ratings scheme.

Random civs is fun. But I hate Miriam, probably will play here, if I must. Would like directed research and pods on.
I think we could try for Average map.
                    Extra units, anyone?
                    CBN, we'll rate you.

I don't mind direct connections, as long as all the scores for M.Y. xxx0 are posted to the Ratings thread...

So, I still like Random Factions.

Extra Units... I don't care for it
                        Average map is fine.

I don't have alot of spare time online, so I can' do the IP game.

Solver...not much of a chance you will get Miriam. 12 Factions to get.. how many of us are there?

Although it depends on the number of Human players I would like to see a bigger map. I feel it just gives a bit more time to develop.

I'm ok with the options that cbn suggested except for the map, extra units and look first. I would prefer to look first and I think the extra units can work if we make it simple like 3 extra scouts just to speed up exploration.

I've never played with extra units, but I don't see a problem with 3 extra scouts.

                            I like look first.

I would be up for a PBEM game, preferably with these conditions:

SMACX (I like the faction choices better when you have all 14)
                              Transcend
                              Huge, random map
                              No random events
                              Do or die
                              abundant native life

                              And I'll play any faction.

I'm new to the PBEM world, but have played lots of transcend games vs. the AI.

Faustus is whom I waited for, but man, only 12 factions. If you control Marr or H'Minee, you're a winner immediately. Otheriwse, I like your proposal. Currently only waiting on our moderator.
