Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Well, that's what happens. You rule, justly and well. Peace and prosperity for all. You move towards transcendence, in order to give everyone on Planet the benefit of PK Rule in Perpetuity ... and what happens?
The rotten sods declare vendetta, that's what happens. When I was elected, you weren't even wearing shoes you bastards!
I blame the University, that's wot. Yup. Untrustworthy, test-tube brandishing white-coats. That's who I blame. Yup.
Natalia slipped her hand in her father's as they gazed into the dark Chiron night.
"Look, there it is again," she squealed excitedly. "Like fireworks, but further away."
Boris looked fondly down at his young daughter, but his heart was heavy.
"No, poppet," he said, "they're nor fireworks."
She looked at him, puzzled.
"We're at war," he said. "These explosions are in space. Our orbital defense pods are attacking those of the Peacekeeper faction,"
"But why?" she asked. "What have they done to us?"
"It's not as easy as that," he replied, wondering just how he could explain geopolitics to his young daughter.
"You see," he went on, "mankind has been progressing tremendously these last 100 years, and we are about to enter a new era in our evolution, becoming one with this planet and the stars. At least that's how it should be. But it's become a race among the factions as to who will be first. And Commissioner Misotu and her hordes are winning this race. Oh, it was close, but we always seemed to be just a year or two behind them.
"And they will brook no sharing - oh yes, weare pactmates, as we are with the others, but the Commissioner is adamant that this 'transcendence' is for the Peacekeepers alone. So we have to try and slow them down."
"But how will destroying their defense pods help?" Natalia asked.
Boris sighed.
"We're clearing the way," he said, "but it might not be enough. They are building them faster than we can shoot them down."
"Clearing the way for what?" asked Natalia.
Boris looked down at his daughter, his face etched in grief and worry.
"For our Planetbusters," he said wearily, and tugged at her hand. "Let's go inside."
They turned just as another miniature supernova lit up the Chiron sky.
2209 to Hobbes
(oh, and I apologize for the reload. Dell has finally figured that Attune is blitzing windows and has advised us to remove it from our system - traces remain tho, when a prog goes looking for it (I haven't cleaned up my orphan links yet) and so I get an occasional crash when a pop-up window appears. First time was a pain, 'cos I had taken out all 5 of Mis's defense pods. Ah well - it was a long shot anyway.)

Commissioner Misotu looked up from her desk, her face grey and tired, as the military men entered the office. It could only ever have been a matter of time before the alliance fractured - she had known this from the beginning.
"The space war has begun, Commissioner, and their busters are nearing completion. We demand the right to retaliate. Our children are cowering in bunkers. We have the capability and the means. We must strike, and strike hard".
A small figure, the Commissioner's shoulders slump.
"We have discussed this many times, my friends. There will be no retaliation. We will continue to devote the military budget to defence, and defence alone. By this means - and only by this means - can we prove ourselves worthy of transcendence. Let others try to justify barbarism to their children. We will show every human being on Planet that there is another way ... "
Natalia sat rapt in attention, her eyes glued to the screen. A small holonumber was counting down in one corner
...4....3....2...1...
The screen turned bright as the explosion occurred, and as the camera panned out the telltale mushroom cloud billowed. The devastation was awesome. The mountain on which UN HQ was situated had erupted like a volcano, eventually obscuring the view and filling the screen with a picture of nuclear charged dust.
It was replaced by the somber face of General Rynn herself:
"We take no joy in the destruction of UN Headquarters, but the will of the University faction must prevail. The treacherous Commissioner has left us no choice. In a few moments UN Equality Village will also be destroyed as our PlanetBusters have broken through the orbital shield defenses of the enemy."
As if on cue, the camera angle shifted to the small neck of land where the base was located - the sun could be seen glinting off the massive tidal harnesses that stood out among the kelp farms. Again the screen flashed bright, causing Natalia to blink rapidly, as the second base incinerated.
The needlespy jet circled lazily above, its long range cameras recording faithfully the events for posterity. As the haze settled, the mighty mountain that once had been the pride of the UN Peacekeeping faction, it's massive energy park, was now a lake, with the waters of the fjord rushing in to fill the thousand kilometer cavity the planetbuster had caused.
Natalia thought it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
"Daddy," she called, "come see."
Boris walked into the playden.
"Natalia," he said sternly. "Switch that off. It's time for bed." He walked over to the unit and activated the shutdown sequence, just as his wife came into the room.
He looked over at her, and raised one eyebrow.
She shrugged. "Her cousin, Gregor, brought it over. They're selling like hotcakes down at the gizmo store. She's been playing it for hours."
Boris looked at the crystal he'd extracted from the viewer.
'Morgan Interactive Games' it read 'Uni vs PK version'
