Hi guys, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I was home from University to visit my family this weekend and unfortunately I cought the Flu
So, a 3 day trip turned in to almost a week in bed... Since I haven´t been at home I, naturally, haven´t had the chance to play any turns. I´m better now however and will be returning to my school in a couple of days. So I will play and send my turn on Monday...promise
I´m terribly sorry about the delay, but I hope you guys understand.
Umm.. I have a problem. My Alpha Centauri crashed on one of the games I was playing today... and now when I try to load a save game file, the box with the saved games is empty. Completely empty, no save files, no root directories showing, nothing.. its just a big blank box. I don't own Alpha Centauri anymore.. so I can't reload it on my system.. (I gave AC to a friend when I got AX... as I didn't need both CDs... Uh, oops).
Any ideas as to what is wrong? It appeared to bust on me when I was trying to save a game...
Ok... I figured out why I can't save the game at the end.. I started a normal game, saved it and then tried to play my turn.. (axt13).. got the turn through a second time.. when I tried to save it got that strange menu that messed me up the first time.. I just tried to save it where they put me, thinking I could hunt down the save file later, whever on my system it ended up and I found its trying to save the game to the CD drive instead of to the hard drive.. no clue why this happened suddenly.
There is no way to back track out of the root directory... and no manual imput area... I'm at a total loss as to how to proceed... I'm going to try my axt15 turn but I expect to see the same messed up stuff... I'm at a loss, I'm not computer ignorant, but this is strange... never seen AX do this...
Have you tried putting the line "WindowsFileBox=1" (without the quotes) in the Alpha Centauri.ini file?
This will give you the regular Windows "Save As..."-file dialog box instead of the customized SMAC-one. This will allow you to manually input a save path and also back-track through the directories.
I always use it because I find the SMAC one cumbersome and missing a few features.
