what exactly is a "bluet"??-- from the other names I know you were referring to colors so does bluet incorporate the blues and the greens . .. .

Personally I see my team as " the economically challenged" or the "Planned" economies. LOL--

Oh and can our factions immediately trade techs and stuff or do we have to meet first. I assume meeting is required to talk woth the other teams.

I'm interested in team Bluet for the second game.

The difficulty level isn't real important to me, as I am not new to either SMAC or multiplayer.

A bluet is a green-stemmed, green-leafed, blue-flowering plant (If you'd been from Kentucky instead of Calgary you could have been Team Bluegrass)

And yes, your 2 factions will be set up with each others' commlinks and pacted, so tech swapping, etc etc can occur from turn 1. You'll have to meet other teams in-game, though, to talk or trade.

          Game # 2 is firming up -

Team Citrus (Morgan and Miriam) - Hercules
Team Bluet (Yang and Deirdre) - Chaos Theory
Team Salt & Pepper (Zak and Santiago) - vacant

edit: see post below for changes to team combos

Jamski - you don't have smax, right?

I can't get the turn order with smac to put Sparta before Morgan (well I can, but Sparta then is yellow and Morgan is black)

Turn order, for speed, being that you play your 2 factions consecutively before passing on the turn.

It'd work as advertised if the teams were:

            Hive and University - Jamski
            Morgan and Sparta - Chaunk
            Believers and Gaians - Flubber

(I can't come up with a decent name for the Hive/Uni combo, but the others would be Team Wasp and still Team Citrus - not that team names matter at all, though.

Are these revised combos OK with everyone?

Well, Sparta certainly isn't my favourate faction... but yeah, why not, if it's alright with Flubber and Jamski. I suspect the Hive&Uni may be slightly overpowered in comparison to the others - certainly believers and gaians - but thats fine with me I think.

I'm not too sure about the BG's being underdogs. Just visualize the fanatic horde arriving on your doorstep on IoD's - a 25% bonus for a believer unit hustling alongside a demon boil mindworm. Can you spell momentum squared?

And a Morgan/Sparta combo is awesome (I was Sparta in one of my best PBEMs with a Morgan pactmate - I supplied the airforce and navy and he supplied the research and energy credits)

In fact, they may be even better than the original combos

I hate hate hate playing the believers--- sorry I just don't enjoy them at all so if thats a necessary combo, I'll step aside

Momentum squared yes, but against a momentum& builder combo team. I think the window of opportunity for the momentum rush is massivly shorter in this sort of game.

I'd be happy to take Believer Gaia in exchange for Morgan Sparta flubber. It'll be a different sort of game for me... and I LOVE playing the believers

                      Done

I agree that Uni-Hive is probably the best combo but I think I could enjoy Morgan- Sparta-- I don't play either that great but I should have fun folling around with them

I also agree with chaunk that the momentum window could be very very short -- who do you hit?? The Morgan-spartans or the Hive Uni--each team has a good early fighter

But also each team also has a good researcher, so even supposing it was possible to attack in say, 20, 25 turns, it's equally possible you could be facing trance plasma sentinels when you get there... Ah well, time will tell

Haven't heard from Jamski, but assuming he's copacetic, it'll be:

                            Hive and University - Jamski
                            Morgan and Sparta - Flubber
                            Believers and Gaians - Chaunk

I've playtested around 30 years and it's ...........interesting

I hate when a CMN says stuff like that LOL -- I never know whether I should expect an enemy 6 tiles away or if there will be souped up custom native life ( like Darsnan does)

All I know is when a CMN says that , expect ANYTHING

Naw - pretty much vanilla native life.

More about the strategic choices needing to be made - when to trade techs - juggling your pair so as to get that critical "last place on the totem pole" status so as to get the tech research boost, then flipping to the other, etc. And zones of control - where and how, ...... those sort of things (of course it was triply interesting as I was playing all 3 pairs and it was hard to keep track of who was doing what to whom.

Assuming Jamski is onside it'll go out to Chaunk this evening. I'll start a new turn reporting thread and post the link here
