New pbem game. Smac 4.0

Hi I would like to play a pbem game and need players. Since I havent done this before it would be nice if someone with a little more experience started it.

I was thinking small - average map
Average all else
No cheatings
I can play any faction but prefer Peacekeeper.

Unfortunately I don't have time for another game, but I'm willing to CMN, if Darsnan and Hobbes want a break.

I assume you want the standard job, i.e. reasonably balanced start positions from a random map? AI enhancements and game mods are no problems either, if they're to your taste.

I suggest we play with these settings:

- SMAC version 4.0/5.0 ?
- Transcend difficulty
- Standard map size; average everything
- All victory conditions enabled
- Do or Die
- No random events
- Directed Research
- Look first
- No Unity Survey
- No techstealing

As for rules I suggest sticking with the Tournament rules. What does the rest of you think?

I assume you want make it a four player game, in which case either everyone but Rubin needs to upgrade to 5.0 - the patch should be on www.firaxis.com - or we need one more player.

Even if you play version 4.0 I highly recommend the v 5.0 update. Note that Firaxis calls it win2000/XP compatibility update, but it works fine with win98.

I have a small problem - i can't find a 5.0 patch on www.firaxis.com - the newest is 4.0

Zalek: Check the Firaxis downloads section and get "Alpha Centauri Win 2000/XP Compatibility Update" (SMAC Update 1.03f 8.48 Mb). It works on win98 too. I don't know why they don't make this clear...

(Edit: You can even patch it onto SMACX v2.0 --- Alien Crossfire is not affected.)
