Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
This has been said before, but I'll say it again. Firaxis shouldn't be allowed to touch SMAC 2. They could only ruin the game. Now, if somehow Brian Reynolds were to make SMAC 2, well that's great then.

I agree that there have been a lot of good sequels, including Civ 2, Moo2 and RRT2. However, it seems that lately the sequels have NOT been as good. It seems the really good game designers have abandoned TBS.
Probably because TBS doesn't really take advantage of the bells and whistles.
That said, I would like to see a SMAC 2 as well. The fact that firaxis can't be bothered to rerelease SMAX indicates they care little for the genre.

They didn't even care enough to patch it decently.
I don't think that's entirely fair. With a game as complex as SMAC it's hard to get all the bugs out. SMAC got 3 patches and SMAX got one. The game plays just fine as far as I'm concerned. I can live with the stockpile energy bug. The only thing I can think of that still really needs fixing is the +4 probe bug.

Any SMAC owner knows that minerals not needed for the production of the current unit/facility/SP are transferred to the next project, with an upper limit of ten mins.
The Stockpile Energy Bug means that, besides being kept for the next production, those excess minerals are also transferred to energy credits IF Stockpile Energy has been put in the build queue.
For example, if a base produces 10 minerals per turn and is two minerals away from completing an impact rover, 8 minerals will be transferred to the next project, which is Stockpile Energy in the build queue. Stockpiling energy transfers these 8 minerals into 4 energy.
When one changes production to a tree farm on the same turn the impact rover is complete, the 8 minerals are kept, but you have gained four free credits out of nowhere. This is an obvious bug and normal procedure would be to not exploit it.
However the problem is that, unless you put something in the build queue other than StEn, the production automatically switches to Stockpile Energy Bug after you have completed a facility or SP. IIRC this is not true for units, where the production of a second unit of the same type is started and thus no free credits are gained.

Taking into consideration how things have evolved with civ3, i'm afraid i must agree.

Guys, this has been mentioned before, it's not up to Firaxis to rerelease SMAX. The publisher of the game is Electronic Arts, so they have the rights to rerelease the game.
Anyway, i think we can all agree that SMAC/X is great, and since an attempt to make a sequel could be disastrous, maybe all that the game needs is an AI tweak, and that could come in the form of a patch. Thats the best that i could expect
