  • RoN: Are YOU Looking at it?

Just wondering how many SMACers (Or BRACers ) are even considering getting Brian Reynolds upcoming game "Rise of Nations".

Nope, I'm not even looking at that wretched project of his. What drugs is BR on? He needs to return to his true kingdom in the TBS world.

Ugh, it looks horrible. I'm not getting it.

I'm pretty neutral about it. SMAC/X (BRAC/X) will always be in my heart though. I doubt anything could top it.

I'm eyeing it, as it looks quite good. Might be another BR masterpiece!

I'm salivating over the thought that its coming out in a few months. The date is marked on my calendar. I've pre-ordered it. It's DEFINATELY gonna be either as big or even bigger than SMAC/X (BRAC/X)

Nope. If it says Real-Time (or worse, First-Person), that's as far as I read.
I am on a mission to see how much coffee it takes to actually achieve time travel.

Im looking forward to it, im generally neutral to RTS
        (liked the first C&C&Warcraft2 disliked War3&EE) .
But I checked some Previews and RoN really looks nice, thanx to automated Idle Worker assignation and Armies not being rebuild in 2Minutes.
        I'll give it a shot.

BTW: I remember BR had to sign a Legal Piece as he left Firaxis that he wont do TBS for some Years, cant remember the Details though- Anyone?
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I am very positive towards TBS and FPS, and I have so far been let down by RTS. But I have more trust in Reynolds than I do in Meier now and I hope that they will be able to revolutionize the RTS genre. If it turns out good, I might even buy it.

Well, RTS games are not exactly my cup of tea, but... I think that RoN might be a very interesting game, judging from what we already know. I'm keeping an eye on it, because Brian is surely investing a lot of time and talent in this game, so I think it could be his next masterpiece...

It is incongruous to design a scope-of-history game to be played in an hour or two. I don't think the "real-time" genre works for that either.

Well, there are some scenarios in Civ and SMAC that are for fast paced play. But just because that's a feature doesn't mean that it's meant to be played that way for immersion.

I'm willing to wait and see what the critics say.

The game can be played that way, and I'd say that this was their main goal all the time, but BHG said more than once that RoN can be played at a slower pace, with much more depth than any other RTS.

I'm more interested in it now that it doesn't sound like an AOE clone.

I have little hope that I'll enjoy it, but if it gets raves from people I know and trust, I might try it.

It looks like it might be good. I'm not gonna rush to buy it, but I might pick it up after a little playtesting somewhere.

Hopefully this project will get the RTS all out of Brian's system.

I'm what you could classify as a multi-gamer: I enjoy a large variety of genres of PC games. Its hard (impossible) to compare RoN with BRAC, because they will be so much different. But I will still be enjoying BRAC and ToT while I play RoN.

But yeah- I am immensely anticipating the relase of RoN.

If its just a clickathon I won't be buying it.

If reynolds manages to meld RTS and TBS I'll give it serious consideration - but the MP must be bullet proof.

Shogun shows that it is possible to do just that.
