  • IP game problems

I have finaly figured out how to get smac to work on my new p4 machine (months withouth smac!!) and I just found out my friend also loves smac, so we thought we'd finaly try a net game. We play tons of online games together to are used to hosting and joining and such.

I start a tcp/ip game and give him my ip.

It searches for a while and says no games found.

    He tries hosting....

    no games found.

What are we doing wrong? I really want to play online with him. (or anyone!)

      nope

Nope, and we both installed the game at the same time, installed the same patches. Both on smacx.

Have either of you tried playing it on a LAN or via directly dialing up each other (bypassing your ISPs). I realize it may not be reasonable or possible to do either of these, but if you could, you might be able to see how it works in the case of the LAN (and possibly expose any incorrect procedures you might be following) and/or bypass any unsuspected firewalls or port blockages within your ISPs and/or routers in the case of the direct dial experiment.

Also, if you are set for simultaneous movement, there is a great deal of synchronization traffic generated which might not have completed even given a long wait.

There are a few threads on this subject which may have some use to you if you try the search, perhaps on 'tcp/ip' or 'tcpip'.

          game

It doesn't detect the game, that's the problem. And how can we play lan or directly when he's on the other side of the country?

Do you have WinXP installed? I also was not able to join/host a TCP- game with it. With Win98 it works. So install Win98 on a second partition or try to use this w2k/XP patch. I dont know if it helps, because i've installed it today.. Currently, I have TCP games running,so i can soon say whether it helps or not. Or just try it yourself. Very interesting to know if it helps..

We've both got 98. But I just found he has a firewall. I'd love to just test it out and see if I can conect with someone. Anyone interested in helping me "de bug" (perhaps leading to a real game one day) please email me at baronjutter@shaw.ca , or icq me 2137642, or aim me at baronjutter. Thanks
