What do I care about your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.

Only Lal can say whether something is ethical/unethical or not, his society being the last remnant of the UN.

But that hardly stands for anything since he gets wiped out quickly most of the time, and as such the position of Planetary Governor is anybody's who can hoard up a huge population, The Empath Guild, or support from other factions.

A trick I use to get full support for Planetary governor is to probe all other factions and frame them enough times so that everyone hates everyone else except me. I enjoy the chaos I caused and humbly step up to chair Planetary council. That's the kind of thing I do as the Believers, as I prefer to cash in on their probe rating instead of their zealotry attack bonus. And in the case that I do get caught, I can use my zealotry attack bonus to discourage them from continuing with their vendetta.

I've never played the Believers very well. The no research for ten turns sucks, and then the slow research sucks even more. Every time I probe, everyone declares war on me and I'm crushed

However, UoP or Conciousness....I play with them very well

Come to think of it, I've never played them at all I've always thought that their main purpose was to give the AI some competitive bite, and that's about it.

Believers are not that weak... If you can find a good ally at the beginning so not to be crushed as a bug before AD2200, their efficiency in combat is just great. And about their science research, just do as usual : why build laboratories in everybase (which cost lots of minerals, lots of maintenance, lots of time)when u can have all of them in only one whos and bring energy from cities and nearby boreholes with supply crawler ?

Believe me the Supply Crawler method is a great one !

Oh well now that I think of it, it is kinda russian isn't it?

I also like him because I can usually get up to 2 techs per term with only five bases

Eh? Tried that, but I wasn't going fast enough (compared to Zakharovs 4 techs per turn) and so I tried probing him, but then other factions got quite angry and....Then the game ended. Even factions that were Magnanimous with me...

I'll just let you be a religious fanatic, you let me be an unethical russian researcher.

That's why you run Fundamentalist and frame someone else. I've found that my probes are more successful than not at stealing research data and energy credits to frame another whenever I run the Fundamentalist SE model as the Believers (totalling to +3 Probe rating). My last game using probes exclusively, I had everyone at each other's throats very quickly after gaining Planetary Networks. I only had two or three incidents where I got caught, but with superior military numbers, I was able to persuade them to turn their greedy eyes away from my bases. In fact in some cases, I didn't even fight the enemy before they sued for peace (peace I didn't even have to pay for).

Most facilities the Believers don't even need that much at all. I've found that anything increasing psych, or labs is pretty much useless. Instead of building such facilities, build up strong numbers of troops. Since the Believers have +2 Support innately, they can easily afford it, and being technologically backward early on, can't afford not to. When I build my base facilities, I find that I only need ones that boost economy, production and Morale, as well as ecological ones. And by production I include the Genejack factory. Since you don't need to do the research yourself, the -50% tech penalty of Punishment spheres means nothing at all, leaving no compunctions against using Genejacks. Since there'll be no drones when the spheres are in place, Free Market can be run with near impunity (still the -3 Planet issue, but when you've cleared away the fungus, and have Centauri Preserves around, it isn't that much of a problem. Especially with the Manifold Nexus in your territory).

And if you get the UN Charter repealed, you could use nerve gas to make your units even tougher than they already are on the attack. By the time you have Plasma Shard weaponry, add nerve gas pods to that, with the Morale bonuses of Fundamentalist and Power, as well as the 25% attack bonus, and you'll still be combat effective for the rest of the game.

I'll just let you be a religious fanatic, you let me be an unethical russian researcher.

I'm on the same bandwidth as the Spartans or the Gaians, and if I had SMAX, I'd probably be on the same bandwidth as the Drones, or the Data Angels.

However, I still find the need for a challenge, so I try using factions of whom I am not even on the same bandwidth. And since I hate religious fanaticism with a passion, the Believers satisfy this need. Using factions I relate with 75-100% (UoP included) is far too easy.

Of course you wont go as fast as Zakharov, but you'd go faster than much other factions. If you definetely cant go that way since you're too used to get many techs a turn, select the option that gives you a tech when you take a base, when you play Miriam.

I actually prefer Free Drones, as you could have guess
