Should I get SMAC? And if so what are some basic stratigies

There're a lot of games like SMAC around now, which give you a different experience each time you play. And that's just peachy for me.

I say use the Spartans for they have provided me with the most flexibility. They also are able to provide better defense and offense if you are at war. Flubber has good strategies listen to him.

Yeah spartans are my second favorite besides Deirdre. If they get ahold of the Command Nexus, the world is toast.

Just a subtle point, if you play Yang, you can stay in Police State/Planned without suffering negative efficiency. This is not obvious from the documentation.

Hey guys thanks for the strats. Plus are there any games that you know about that lets you create units like AC cause Ac is the only one that has that ablity that I can find.

Pax Imperia lets you do it but that game is pretty old.

There is a shareware game Stars! which is actually not half bad and where you have a unit workshop. It is designed to be a multiplayer game, but also has computer opponents, if you are lonely. The different stars are roughly equivalent to bases, you don't have a map which you can develop, however.
Otherwise, I don't know a game with a unit workshop.

Master of Orion 2 has an extensive ship design system in addition to having a civ like economic system with planets taking the place of cities / bases. It's a great game, though it's really easy.
