SMAX Faction Editor?

Is there any STABLE GUI for making SMAX files? SMAC files even?

I'm tired of trying to use Facedit because its so unstable, and the few times it works it crashes right when I finish. I can't stand it. But I don't know how to do all the graphics, files, etc, manually....So I have a small dilemma?

Can anyone help?
