IIRC, there were some old threads about problems/solutions, perhaps you can find something there.Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated? -
As far as I know, you will be able to play it without a problem. But I don't have XP, so I'm merely reproducing what others said.

No problem at all. I'm running XP, and I had to do a grand total of, erm, nothing special to get it working (PP, YMMV).
