I have been trying to get SMAC working in 1280x1024. is that at all posible ? right now when I'm running 1280 in desktop and start the game then the screens a all screwed up.

Edit the .ini file to add 1024 to the resolution (I run my laptop on 1280 x 1024, and had the problem that the smac/x screens minimized to about half my screen. Changing the setting in the .ini file to 1024 now resizes to my whole screen
This was addressed in patch #1 (I quote from the readme.txt):
Video Mode=800 or Video Mode=1024
This forces the screen resolution to either of these two sizes.
