  • Transcend fractions

What do you all think are the easiest/hardest fractions to use while playing on transcendence difficulty?

Personally I enjoy playing as the Peacekeepers because the extra talent really helps out.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is UoP, I can hardly win on transcendence difficulty with them...

Morgan is also pretty good on transcendence difficulty...

Two thirds is nice, but I really like fourteen seventeenths...what?...oh...do you mean factions?

I like random faction games if I am playing against the computer. My quickest transcend was with Morgan, but I currently have a Peacekeeper game on the go which should be quicker still.

If the alien bad guys are in the game, I feel safest playing the Cult. Having one or both of the Progenitors nearby can really mess up your early game otherwise.

As you can see by my avatar I like the Gaians the best, particularly as a role-playing faction. But I am happy to play conquest games as well. My favourite faction for the type of transcendance which involves taking over all of Planet except for one or two bases first would be the Hive.

So they all have their merits. Except for Miriam. That is easily the faction I have the most trouble playing.

270/45 was the latest fraction I used, I liked it because then I knew exactly how many synth-supply crawlers I would need to complete the VW.

      Sorry

The Hive is a great faction for playing Transcend, because drone control is so easy. It's also very easy to clobber your neighbour (Hive ground pounder swarm).

The PK's can run FM really easily, but they are a boring faction.

Morgan is more challenging, and can be really enjoyable to play on Transcend.

Gaians ability to build formers from the start is great, and the ability to place about 50% more bases before buro drones makes them a very powerfull expansionist. But like the PK's I find them a boring bunch to play.

So I prefer to play Hive or Morgan, but all the factions are competitive on Transcend.

I find the UoP to be the easiest faction in so many ways. Yep, they do have trouble with drones but there are so many ways to counter that. What is really nice is that they get a research bonus, and a free network node. It's like a huge head start, and it's easy to feed that back on itself and build a sizable lead on the other factions.

Try building the Virtual World (very easy to get it as the UoP) and / or using a specialist strategy. With specialists drones are a thing of the past! The only other weakness of the UoP is their minus to probe rating. Since I am usually ahead in tech it doesn't bother me much, and for defense I just build an infantry probe or two for each base.

But he touched it too much!

My favourite faction still would be The Fungboy even though I seldom play him this days (in MP he's just so manage), anyway you can find almost every players favourite faction at (how do attach shortcuts threads?) Thread "Favourite Faction".

            What? You miss it already
The Spamgineer was a tribute to my time as a spammer, a little after one year at apolyton I spammed my way to 500 posts, mainly because it seemed rather unfair that the Avatar rules had changed.

What about this variation on the engineer sprite

UoP is easily the most powerful faction in the game. Ever tried the Free Market and Punishment Sphere combo? It beats the crap out of everyone else.

What it took you almost a year? It only took me four month to get more than 500 posts.

My best work include that time when I posted 14 posts at the apolyton coffeshop with only a number at each post within ten minutes. Guess what, I got away with it!

let see what happens if I do this...........

I never saw why anyone needed to go spam crazy but to each their own. If you play MP there are always lots of opportunity for "legitimate" posts. I actually find it funny that post count matters for anything but I'm sure the admins must have their reasons. As for me, I just don't care. The proof is that when I moved I found it easiest to shelve my cbn identity with its 960 posts. You could have been king some would say. . . yup but who cares . . .

back to the topic. In SP I find the UoP as perhaps the most dominant since the AI lacks the ingenuity to equal the tech gap and it is ever so easy to crush them in a number of ways. In MP I find the tech ability does not matter as much when players trade and probe and I tend to like the Hive, and Drones.

I also have an irrational love for the cult. Many see them as weak but I have found that they are just different and can often be very successful if they can build an early army and pop techs and comm freqs etc.

For me, the hardest factions to play are

                      the Believers
the Morganites (never could get used to those hab limits)
Sven (lots of people love him but I've never gotten the hang of it)
The aliens ( too boring when you are dominant from the start
You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo
