Is there a chart of some sort, possibly created by those wonderful folks at Apolyton, a kind of a dictionary?

My problem is that I am of Earth, and am used to libraries, banks and such. When I hear the word Cryohumiliator, I have no idea what it's for, and so I build base improvements without really knowing what they do (in detail).

Is there such a dictionary, a quick reference thingy?

In game you can use the help screen (F1) to access the data for all objects in smac. There is a list of abbrev.'s around here somewhere....

      Earthling,

By using the right click on the select next tech to research screen you will get all of the info you need. If a tech allows a new facility, you can click on that facility and see what it does. In the base screen you can do the same thing after you have selected change production. Click on help, and all of the info on the SP, facility or unit comes up. This is basically how I learned this stuff, though I did do some initial research by reading the manual.

Shame, shame. You mean you actually read the manual before playing.

          (slowly raises hand in embarrassment)

I read the manual through twice before playing the first game...

What can I say? I'm a documentation junkie

I read the manual - play and sucked.

I found Apolyton, read some threads - played and better but still sucked.

I read Vels Guide - played and suddenly an expert!

No really, I did managed to win a few times before Vel's guide and Apolyton. Actually I even think I got one single AtT victory but it came very late (2379 or something). Nowadays my AtT victories usually comes around 2220-2250.
