I share your fate. Volcanos, satellite wipeouts and sea level risings are commonplace with me, but never Asteroid hits.

I say the police rating of every faction on planet should drop by two the first year they see the asteroid, and then by another two when it gets even closer! Maybe you could even get the option to rush-build a spaceship to run away back to Earth...

Even better, make that all values dropping with one every turn. Economy, effic, research and military halt as people return to their families, preparing for the worst. Morale plunders - who wants to fight at that time?

And have bases revolt and join other factions.

And, think about this. If you could predict which base would get hit, give it to away. This might reduce your power rating just enough to divert the asteroid. Later, you could bargain for the return of the base. But if that base were still hit, you will have created a first: an AI base being struck by an asteroid. That I have never seen.
