  • Gifts from non pactmates?

Have you been given gifts (military units) by a faction you are not pacted with?

I am Spartans, next door neighbor is Uni. Lal offers to pact if I will declare vendetta on Miriam, who is also vendetta against Uni.

So I pact with Lal, and declare vendetta against Miriam. I am behind in weapons tech, Uni has chaos, I just have impact. So I probe the University , hoping for chaos, but I get Gatling instead.

So I start to crank out elite gatling guys and proceed to take Miriam apart, base by base. A few turns later, Uni starts gifting me chaos rovers! Not in a pact, just a treaty. I dont recall getting gifts like that before unless in a pact.

Uni sent me about 3 chaos rovers, a chaos infantry and three chaos batterys within about three turns. So I start to crank out elite chaos rovers too and really chew up Miriams plasma defenders. THEN Uni trys to probe ME? I had the hunter seeker, so I didnt care, but....Was that a dumb AI trick or what? First give me weapons , and then provoke me? I think I will wait until the University builds the Super collider, and THEN turn on them.

    Strange Ais these days

Maybe he (AI) thought that if he sent you presies he can probe you for free. I'd certainly not recall the AI doing anything like that to me.

I've had this happen. Dee was hopelessly behind in tech, and was getting hammered by Zak. Being the wonderful person I am ( ) I decided to give Dee a hand, so when she next asked me to 'switch allegiances' I accepted, declaring Vendetta on Zak. I took four of his bases, and was just about to take a fifth, when I noticed the 'unit transferred to your command' popup. On closer inspection, my good friend Dee had just given me three Recon Rovers. Thanks a lot Dee, I mean lasers are just so much better than my chaos weaponry...
It only happens to me occasionally, and sometimes I get really dumb stuff happening, like Roze giving me units which are aboard one of her transports (they just disappear without trace) or Domai gifting me fission-powered Needlejets that are too far from my nearest base to get there within their fuel limit. Grrr...stupid AI...

The story ends happily though - I upgraded the Recon Rovers, gave Dee Superstring Theory (chaos weapons) when she asked, and tromped all over Zak - eat xenofungus, you stuck-up techie!

I just had another wierd example of this myself. I was pacted with Miriam, who ended the pact and attacked on the next turn. She takes two or three bases of mine, then offers a treaty. I say Okay. Then she gifts me three or four impact rovers she had been attacking me with two turns earlier? Wierd. Very strange. Then of course a few turns after that she turns on me again. So I end up defending one of my bases with troops she had just given me!

I have been the recipient of units from a treated AI faction as well. It seems to be a rare event compared to pactmate gifts of units.

Don't ever complain about receiving obsolete weaponry. It is true that you can upgrade it but unless it is better than veteran I seldom bother. Disbanding them to speed up your builds is often the best way to go.
