  • Automatic?

One of the best features of CIV was the ability to exit a game, but let it continue by itself on full automatic. I would often do this before going to bed, watching the game play from the point of my last save. In the morning, at times, the game would still be playing. Mostly, though, one side or the other would have won. I was curious to find out if my civilization won.

Is there anyway to put SMACX on full automatic? If there is not, this certainly would be a feature I would like to see an any future SMACX.

Yes it can be done. For an admittedly inelegant solution see p. 48 of the SMACX manual.

The only thing on pg 48 of my SMAX manual is a copyright text. Pg 48 of the SMAC manual just says about citizens.
            Am I missing a joke?
"Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

Naw. No joke. They must have done something different in the Euro version of the SMACX manual. The following is an excerpt from Tim Train's Designers Notes (North American version):

...we discovered that the game AI could play itself at an accelerated speed - by turning over control of the game in the scenario editor to another faction, turning off all the animations, and taping down the "ENTER" key to bypass all the popups.

Aha. Got it. Over here it's page 41.
I must try that sometime - maybe pit seven Dees agaisnt each other or something...
Do you have to tape down the Enter key? Isn't there some other way of deactivating the popups?

What I use is a letter opener an a weight.

I think this tape or weight procedure is OK because it allows one to stop the automation and observe the state of the world. Otherwise you only see the faction to whom you turned over the game.

Now, if they were to implement full automatic, they would also have to implement "esc."
