My SMAC won't load now!!!!

Help please. I've had SMAC for over a year now but all of
a sudden it won't load. It run the black firaxis screen
with a loading hourglass and the nothing! Is anyone else
running SMAC with success on DirectX 8? Thanks for any
suggestions.

wesley32, Have been running DX8 for nearly 5 mo's & playing smac/smacx w/o incident. You may need to update your video driver, or the terran.exe file may be corrupt - good old W's. From W's explorer, remove the terran.exe file & then re-install it from the CD, or just uninstall/re-install the whole game. If you're feeling bold or want to save curent games, you can try re-installing the game over itself w/o 1st uninstalling. Have never tried that. May or may not work. BTW, I'm in ancient & lowly P166/MMX land w/a mere 64 meg sys ram, so your platform is likely more powerful than mine & not the problem. GL!

I had the same problem trying to get the game running on an old 486 computer (yeah you heard me right the first time).
If all else fails - try modifying the last line of the Alpha Centauri.ini
file to read:
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1
This worked for me.
