  • Here, Have A Game

This is a standard game, SP, Librarian, 50-70 water, average everything else, rules are All Victory, no co-op, scattering on, blind off, do or die, and steal tech on. SMAC only, SMAC rules and factions. Hive. I started the game as practice for an upcoming PBEM... So, tell me how you do, post shots and games... I'll give you a clue.... you've got a great starting location!

Well..... I have to start somewhere... Haven't played as Hive in a couple of years, like I said... This way, I can just kind of revise what the really good people do here, then use PBs on Franky and all who oppose the great Chairman! Bow to your Ruler!

I opened the turn-- its at 2141 right ??

          A few points

          1. Why are your bases so widely spaced ??-- Plunk them down quicker. Think turn advantage. Particularly since the new base gives 10 minerals toward a shiny new former.

          2. Why do you have so few formers?? cardinal sin as the HIve not to have lots of formers-- remember you have a positive support rating so get those formers out there. Plus you had 133 cash sitting around . .. what for . .. rush a former or a rec tanks

          3. I did not agree with some of your early tech choices ( although you obviously traded for some techs).. Industrial automation should be a priority and you should avoid some of the early techs until and unless you have a use for them. For example, you acquired doc flex ( easy to tell as you don't have doc mob) but were not building any ships !!! To me thats a tech you trade for when you are ready to use it. Each tech you acquire drastically increases the research cost of the next tech you start researching so pick carefully. I would have likely accepted doc flex too but guarateed I would have been rushing ships out there immediately.

I played it for about 15 years, building formers and infilling bases ( REMEMBER it takes forever for a base to use all its tiles and by the time it can, advanced terraforming means you don't need to use all of them . . . so don't be so afraid to have some overlap in the base radii ) .. . .but then realized I wouldn't enjoy playing a game started so differently than I would have played it.

If you have the initial start, I could play that and show how I would play it from the outset .. . Oh and I don't claim to be the HIve expert but they are fun and interesting to play.

What? Sorry! That must have been my fault... I must have posted the wrong game... that must be totally wrong... I don't know what I posted... are you sure? I'll check when I go home... I've got a lot of saves, so I probably grabbed the wrong one... I was trying to post a game in 2101... the Hive game that I eventually made it to, from the starting one, I had mob and auto, which you both said I didn't have.... I don't have many formers usually though... only ten for about ten cities usually... I get ten with about four cities, and by the time I found the next cities, the formers are already working, so I don't need to build more... sorry again, will try to fix and have no idea where this came from... must be old, like I said, haven't played Hive in a while, and back then didn't realize how powerful crawlers were...

Depends how little morals you have Geo? Willing to pop out X-Wave and X-Blink Choppers? And use them properly...

              Hm...

Let's try this again... here's the link

Just curious, Flubber, what SPs did you have in the game you downloaded? I didn't think of trying to finish it... I often play games partway, then forget about it...

The Hive. You had to pick the Hive. Man, I can't play Yang, I'm too economic, never have a military (literally), and therefore could care less about support and police. All I use are probe teams and missiles, and even on Transcend, the strategy works.

Exact reason I'm asking for help... I've done decent though.. just my economy went from 1500 ec with +30, at war with Zarhakov, to 300 with -50, warring with all but the good Academician... I'm learning, plus, this way, I don't have to learn in a PBEM.....

I don't recall but I think it was none-- there were a bunch of spread out bases and you had something like 4 AAs but hadn't gotten crawlers yet.

The university was just to your south and you had obviously traded some tech with them. IN my brief play I actually built a probe and stole a base they had on MOunt Planet while keeping a treaty with them

Yang is an excellent candidate for ICSing.

I find Gaians do it better. They can eat fungus, and have a higher natural efficency = more bases without b-drones

I would appreciate some CONSTRUCTIVE comments... Flubber seems willing, now I just need to get him the right game... as for the game you got, I don't know if I accidently renamed it or what, but that turned into a deathfest, with all but the Uni calling war on me, then several PBs coming out....
