  • Alpha Cent 2?

Are there plans to do a AC 2?

Not that I know of. But I'm sure Sid has considered it before. I hope they allow a better online gaming experience. And some sort of count system to quantify factions to allow ppl to play custom factiosn online more liberaly.

Centauri 2 is probably out of the question. Since Civ III and conquests have done so well, Firaxis just stopped making the game, because simply put, they weren't going to make any more money. Everyone that wanted Centauri had it, and anyone who didn't could buy it cheaper of Ebay or get it copied from a friend. Now, a civ 4, that's probably more of a possibility. But, hey, SMAC2 would be great, as long as the game wasn't made a lot better, but not changed too much (kind of picky, I guess). If anyone finds any news on any more Centauri stuff, tell me.

The eternal question is asked once more. The answer remains sadly a firm and final no.

So he is going to remake Pirates, a game that will compeate with numerous other Pirate games but not Alpha Cent? I wounder why? Personally I loved Pirates when I played it back on the Apple IIc, but now there are so many good Pirate themed games I just don't think I would be as impressed. And frankly the last Civ game I bought was Call to Power. I am burnt out on Civ. But I guess I am in the minority.

The point is that Sid didn't make Alpha Centauri. Brian Reynolds did, and he now has his own company, so there's not the interest from Firaxis, despite the fact it would sell like mad.

I hope BR makes a SMAC-like game. I presume the rights for the SMAC name are owned by Firaxis still.

I'm not sure if it would sell that well. I think they may have been a little disappointed with SMAC sales. They just don't sell like civ games.

But I think they could put out a pretty good game that even the average gamer might like if they tried. It just takes a vision. But with Brian Reynolds gone, someone else must have that vision, and then convince management to go ahead with the product.

should SMAC2 be a sequel or a remake?

A sequel seems impossible. After all you most likely transcended at the end. Also take into account such techs like Temporal Mechanics that defy our classical logic. It would be a very weird game indeed.
A remake seems best in other words!

SMAC still is one of the best selling games. I remember seeing some statistics. Overall though people are more tired with abstract thinking. That is why Civilization sells so much better than SMAC. People usually know and have good understanding what musketeer is, but what is Impact Fusion Rover....?
