Heh?
I've never seen this feature, and I have the latest patches. SMAC 4/SMACX 2. Unless there's yet another patch that's part of the planetary pack?
Can someone shed further light?
Walt
If there is such a feature, where?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! . This would be useful. From the sound of it, it sounds like a ocean rift?

SMAC's random map generator never uses it.
You have to add it yourself, using the Scenario Editor.

Is there a way, a setting in the alpha.txt file, to force the computer to add the feature in a random map? Or some other such file?

I am assuming (I do not have much knowledge of this area) that you can add it into a player-created map?
Yep.

I don't think so. But then again, I never bothered trying really hard to do such a thing, so it might be possible.

I'm currently playing a game where my faction's home continent has the Nessus Canyon (and yes, it was placed, not generated). I have not noticed any minerals bonus (though I wasn't actually looking for one); what I did notice was that the terrain was unusually steep--this may have been due to the fact that I placed it on 3000+ meter land--it is only four-five squares across on the short axis, but managed to hit ten meters in the center. IIRC, the 'wet' side is all rainy and nearly all rolling, and the 'dry' side is nearly all arid and rocky. Three separate rivers were running into it instead of the sea, but I don't know if that was landmark-specific, of just because of the lay of the land.
It's interesting to look at with flattened terrain off.

Incidentally, I tried instead to add it onto the Garland Crater.
In the Terrain box the tiles were tagged "CraterCanyon", but the bonuses did not sum up, they still added +1 onlyI don't exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it (Holden Caulfield)
