  • Guilty Pleasures of Nerve Stapling

When I started playing SMAC, I normally played "good guys" of one sort or another. One thing I didn't know about was pop booming (I'd read the manual, and had no online access) and I had this hideously successful SP game as Diedre where I kept seeing population increase "early" at multiple bases that "shouldn't" have, every turn. Then I'd get drone riots. Grumble.

Well this went on until the first solar storms. I wondered how these might affect sanctions, and suddenly let my inner monster free. My wife looked at me in utter shock when I suddenly, gleefully yelled "Yes, nerve staple them, nerve staple them ALL." and gleefully nerve stapled every city that even blinked at unrest. Watching those drones behave was bliss. Admit it. Inside each of us secretly a Yang lurks.

Haha I only nervestapled once and I felt so terrible afterwards

And to think of it, that one time I did it, I was playing the Hive

You care about sanctions ? and you call yourself a monster !?
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

The way I look at it if you have a strong economy and army go ahead and nerve staple. I will even go as far as using nerve gas in some of my attacks when confident that the consequences can't stop me. The only thing I'm reluctant to use is PB's. I will use them though if I have a ton of orbital defense sattelites and can take on the world in a war.

The only thing that keeps me from using PB is the eco damage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with killing enemy faction citizens if their base is built on a stupid location.
          Just walk away.

Let me guess - you play with Hive?

I try to resist the urge to nerve staple my rioting Drones until the charter is repealed (usually by myself and my submissive pactmates).

I use 'busters in the majority of my games.

I don't use nerve gas because I don't want to kill the enemy, just enlighten them into my new "utopia".

Yep, those busters really enlighten them up, too.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
