Interesting (again... Sorry), I was just looking at the Civ3 wish list, from what I saw, why don't the people posting there just buy SMAC!?

Because they have problems with it.
a) it is set in the future, many civ fans hate this
b) it has aliens.
c) it is a "clone" of civ.
d) it does not say "civ" on the box.
For the record I'm fine with the above
LOL I actually can see where they're coming from, but 'replayability' is the wrong word to use by far --- nevermind, the whole thing makes no sense at all

I used to post suggestions, but after seeing a simple but effective idea (it involved a terraform que similiar to the SMAC build que) drowned by a multitude 2000 word theses, I gave up.
I also doubt I'll be buying Civ3 if the game is going to be as complicated as those guys want.
There's no game in The Sims. It's not a game. It's like watching a tank of goldfishes and feed them occasionally. - Urban Ranger

Apparently, also, SMAC does not have "replayability" because the factions/faction leaders have distinctive personalities and social agendas.
Gulp.
Thats where custom faction come into play.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
I heard that Sid wasn't too hot on Social Engineering. Was that posted here? I heard it somewhere, most likely around here. Anyway, if Civ3 doesn't have something comparable to Social Engineering, and if the civilizations don't have unique abilities, it'll be a step backwards.
And I agree--the Civ cultists seem to want a game that would take a Doctorate to play. I've enjoyed learning to master SMAC, but I don't think it would hurt TBSes if designers for once erred on the side of elegant and simple (as opposed to accurate and insanely complex).
And slightly off-topic: the best thing Civ3 could include would be a timer. You enter how long you want to play for, and when you've reached that limit, it automatically saves your game and shuts down. And then it won't let you play it for, I don't know, a day. Or however long you say, but you can only set the parameters *before* you start playing.
....um, or maybe it's only me that would need something like this... sigh...
Girl friends apear to be more buggy and have a much higher crash rate the smac. Wives do not crash so often bur have mauhc less playability.

Girlfriend? Wife? I don't need no stinkin' wife. I've already told my wife story about how it was her or AC. I play AC every day now. lol
Seriously....... Not replayable? I would have to disagree. I like custom factions, to a point, but think there are plenty of factions to make it replayable. There are enough options in this game to make each game a unique experience. I generally pick the faction I want to play with, but all the other factions are random.
Custom factions can seriously change the interaction in the game. I've read stories about how much play testing went into the creation of the stock factions.
