  • Help Me Post New Tech Trees?

    Hi all,

I've made a legible tech tree that fits on one page. It could still stand a little improvement, but it works. I've made Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire versions, and I corrected the two errors I found on the Alien Crossfire poster (one of the techs was on the wrong level, and one of the arrows pointed to the wrong tech).

The thing that I find really handy about these, is I can print a different one out for each PBEM game I'm in, and keep it "on file" so I can remember how I'm trying to go up the tree. I can even make notes on it about what other people have, etc.

I adapted these from an XL file I found on the Alpha Centauri Heaven site, credited only to "Jesse." If anybody can give me more info on this person, I'd like to include their full name on the map, as credit.

Anyway, I'd still like to darken some of the arrows, but this version still works, and I'd like to share it with everybody, I just don't have a web site or anything, and it'll take forever to appear on the Appolyton site. Can I send it to anyone who will post it for me?

    Thanks,

    Helium Pond (Jesse Clark)

    Yo 'Pond!

Sounds good to me. I've got unlimited free webspace, so fork over the files to enixine@enixine.dabsol.co.uk and I'll see if I can persuade my housemate to set it up!

Same Here! I could use it as a reference chart.

      What is thy name?
      And he replied saying:
My Name is iMac: for we
      are many..
      And I asked him,
      What is thy name?
      And he replied saying:

Thanks, Ally Covy! I should mention, by the way, that these aren't just the names of the techs; these trees include all the new unit types, facilities, and special projects that come with each tech, as well as special properties like "nutrient restrictions lifted."

iMac, hopefully you'll be able to get the files soon off of Alinestra's site. I'd rather not start emailing them individually, because that could just snowball. But I'm glad you're interested; I think they're handy too.

Allie, I just tried your site and tried to download Helium Pond's chart. I got an error message that the link did not link to the file. Ned

Allie, I'm thrilled you got these up so fast! The actual page they're on is:

                http://www.enixine.dabsol.co.uk/SMAC.html

emjaycue, I'm glad you liked it! It was one of those obsessional all-night-long-and-into-the-next-day kind of things, and it's very rewarding to know other people will be benefitted by my sleep deprivation.

iMac, I don't know what to tell you. These are made in Word97, which I would assume the Mac versions could open. Do you have a version of Word for Mac?

I'm going to start a new thread announcing their posting; this thread was a call for help, and help came, so it's served its puropse.

Hmmm... I suppose I could try to post up .gif files of the tech trees, but those would be extremely large and cumbersome in terms of loading times, etc.

Shall I try to do this? I'm not sure how it would come out, but I think I can probably get away with taking a screenshot of the entire thing and then enlarging it. This would lose some detail, obviously, but at least it would be very easily readable by both PC and Mac users. And I might even be able to post them on this forum, for people to "Save As..." from here.

                    iMac and Ned,

I don't know if this will work for you, but try right-clicking on the link and selecting Save Target (or Save Link) As. Left-clicking didn't work for me, either.

I should mention, if anybody else wants to post these on their own website, I'll be happy to mail them to you. I'd like it if they were generally available, so feel free to pass them around. I now have an email alias for Helium Pond, so mail me at heliumpond@mindspring.com.
