  • Deficit financing - is this a bug?

In a recent game, I found myself witn zero energy reserves, expenditure exceeding income by about 140 a turn, and apparently no side effects - I would have expected base improvements to be automatically sold off. Can anyone explain this?

What level of play was this? I think the higher levels of play start selling off base facilities, lower maybe not so much?

      This was at specialist level.

It may be the level, but also may be a bug. I think some of the early versions had this problem before the patches. Is this smac or smacx and what version?

Yep, it's a very well know SMAC bug that has not yet (and probably never will be) fixed. Ho hum....

Are you sure your commerce income didn't make up the shortfall?

You can be spending more than you are producing in terms of energy credits, but still be in surplus if you have pacts or treaties, and especially if the Global trade Pact has been passed. being Governor also gets you a +1 commerce per base for the trading calculations (and, of course, the more economic enhancing base facilities you have the higher the commerce income).

Oh, actually, now that I come to think about it, this particular bug was fixed in SMACX version 2, which can be downloaded here at Apolyton.
