One of the best things about SMAC for me are the tech quotes. They really build up the atmosphere in the game.

Does anyone know who is behind these quote selections and has written the original ones?

    One of my favorites:

    Doctrine: Air Power
Air Power rests at the apex of the first triad of victory, for it combines Mobility, Flexibility, and Initiative.

No Spartan battle manual in my local library :-)

Oh, and I'm really glad to see Vel back.
    You're the man Chris!

    Retroviral Engineering

"The Acadamacian's private residence will remain of limits to UN inspectors. We do not possess retroviral technology, we are not researching retroviral technology and we will not allow faction privileges to be violated in the name of this ridiculous witch hunt!"

Of eerie relevance today, in light of the precursors to the invasion of Iraq.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, Hippi.

The best tech quote, imo is Yang's thoughts on Biogenics, the exact text of which escapes me now.

Please don't bump threads from 6 months ago that hardly anyone posted in anyway and that don't really contain any useful opinion. There's enough crappy threads on the first page anyway.

              Thankyou.

Particularly without bothering to look up the correct text beforehand. It would have taken 5 minutes to load up the game and check.

                  Heh whoops sorry....

Am running Firefox and opened up a bunch of old threads and new threads in a bajillion different windows, must have got 'em confused.

I'll be more careful next time, to avoid the thread police.

Why do you insist that the human genetic code is "sacred" or "taboo"?
It is a chemical process and nothing more. For that matter -we- are
chemical processes and nothing more. If you deny yourself a useful
tool simply because it reminds you uncomfortably of your mortality,
you have uselessly and pointlessly crippled yourself.

If our society seems more nihilistic than that of previous eras, perhaps
this is simply a sign of our maturity as a sentient species. As our
collective consciousness expands beyond a crucial point, we are
at last ready to accept life's fundamental truth: that life's only
                    purpose is life itself.

                    #PROJECT6
What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no
more than information before the senses, data fed to the
computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received
the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and
you shall become master of the output.

                    #PROJECT13
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they
warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your
awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self
of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the
greater race are transcendent, and to embrace them is to achieve
                    enlightenment.

                          Controlled Singularity
"Some would ask, "How could a perfect God create a universe with so much that is evil?" They have missed a greater conodrum: "Why would a perfect God create a universe at all?"
~Sister Miriam Godwinson, We Must Dissent

I don't know about anyone else, but I think once they reach that point in the game, Miriam starts to lose her faith... It's kind of touching...and sad at the same time.

                          Another fav:

                          Homo Superior
"Companions, the creator seeks. Not corpses, not herds or believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks: the ones that write new values on new tablets. Fellow harvesters, for everything about him is ripe for the harvest.
                          ~Fredriech Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

I know Frediech Nietzsche said some bad things, but he said many deep and beautiful things, too. He reminds me of yang.

I would just like to say that the Quotes, blurbs and all other Flavor enchancing aspects of SMAC are far and away its greatest achivment (even more then the game istelf). You realy DO get caught up in this this stuff and its done with such a slim portfolio of quotes too, definatly the less is more strategy if I have ever seen it.

Some of my Favorites are the ones that talk about the Gaians secret war with the Spartans, you get just a tiny and sugjestive taste of whats going on in the Takyon Feild Quote, the Empath Guild Quote and another quote that escapes me right now.

                              What's wrong with Nietzsche exactly?
