laptop duel

Has anyone played a multiplayer game(OK - just two people) using two laptops linked together? I have played on a network and on the modem, but don't know if its possible to use laplink to play on two laptops in the same room.

Any help would be appreciated.

I once tried to play with two laptops using the infrared port on both, but somehow just playing with the com ports did not do it for us.

I am looking forward for other people to see if they succeeded.
