Can someone tell me how to get rid of the global warming event in smacx? Previosly, in alpha.ini. I raised the "global warming" line [under "World Builder"] to a very high number. This stopped global warming completely. However, for some reason, it know longer works. Global warming is back. As far as I'm concerned, global warming ruins the game. A little of it is okay, but for some reason Firaxis decided to emphasize it to the point where playing becomes a chore.

I just noticed there is a alpha notepad file and a alphax notepad file. These appear to contain the same values. Does anyone know the difference between them or which one controls the game?

alpha.txt controls SMAC, alphax.txt controls SMAX

so, perhaps you changed the global warming in alpha.txt, then installed SMAX?

BTW, I disagree vehemently about global warming ruining the game. In SP, you have to try to induce it, IMO. Multiplay is a different story...many humans terraforming and crawling minerals can certainly speed up the process. Especially if some one decides to start throwing nerve gas around!

What's wrong with global warming. Build Pressure Domes, crank out the Sea Formers and drown your enemies.

                  Thanks Mongoose

Yep, I made the changes to the wrong file. I took samcx off the computer and then reloaded it. I then made the changes to the wrong file. It has been corrected. "Whats wrong with global warming?" I like to play a development game, and gw ruins it. Just my preference.

Be a big tree hugger, run green, plant forests everywhere and harvest them in a jolly way.

...while having no production. the best way is to induce pops early while they produce few worms (meanwhile, increasing your clean minerals) while building tree farms and hybrid forests to reduce your eco damage caused by terraforming. global warming is only caused by a certain amout of pops in a short period (or so i understand it...blake, ned? (i think fitz is dead or something))

lots of forest is great, but it's even better with lots of boreholes...LOTS.

IMHO, the best way to do it is to produce a maximum ecodame in one city, quite away of your faction, protected by empath rovers/scouts. This base keeps producing and selling centauri preserve, which raise your clean mineral limit by one each time, as well for the pollution boom.
If you start on the L-Shaped continent, the isle southwest of it or the ruins are just perfect fot that. If you play on the middle continent, do it southwest of Garland Crater. If you start on the biggest continent... er, i dont know.
