Hi all! I just started playing this game for the first time. My brother hooked me up with the cd, but he doesn't have the manual. Does anybody know where to find it online? Thanks for you time

I don't know where you could find it (and I hope you won't find many around here who help you to do illegal things ). The online help (F1) is fairly good, and there are three tours through the interface (perhaps you've already discovered them). Take time to work through these, if you don't want to play the tutorial game(s) which are on the CD. Browse the menus to see what you can do. Together it should give you a start you can work with. For the strategic parts, the handbook doesn't say too much anyway. For this, you should get Vel's Strategy Guide (warning: might be a spoiler. OK, not quite but it is like taking a lift instead of walking up a mountain). Have also a look at the FAQ thread.
Hope that helps anyway.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?
Have you played Civ at all? If so, there are only a few differences.

There is a detailed guide available from one of the strategy game sites. Do a Google search with keywords like "SMAC, online, guide, strategy". I also haven't got a manual and have found it useful to start with.
