  • Ludicrous demands

Morgan, that pesky CEO, decided to declare war on me after a century or so of friendship and trade.

I kindly asked my Pact Sister Deirdre to come to my help...

This was around 2200 MY, that's the entire credit production of the whole Planet for the next 100 years.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

      So much for that pact?

And how could the morganites pose a threat?! They're usually very weak....

Everything has a price for Morgan and it may as well be a high price. Very much in character.

Do the Gaians accept post-dated checks?

Kassi; you could ask a loan from somebody.
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

I've advanced in the game now (playing Peaceniks btw). The Morganites have exactly one (1) base remaining; and my Trained Singularity Speeders are closing in.

Here is the opposite problem - note that the alternative payment is larger than the primary amount asked for!

Any demand from an AI other than "May I be you B****, please?" is excessive.

Very very true. Now if only the damn thing could be made a little more intelligent...
About the only decent tactic they ever use is troop landings. Once the Hive declared war on me and next turn about 10 units came pouring out of a transport right next to one of my biggest coastal bases and (just about) managed to overwhelm my defenders. They only held the base for 2 turns (just long enough to rename it People's Teeming - I love how the AI renames bases as an intimidation tactic!), but it's still one of the very few times I've lost a base to the AI.

Just play Civ3 and you'll see excessive demands. In fact the AI only knows how to make excessive demands. Atleast in SMAC the AI sometimes sells tech at a reasonable or cheap price (Fusion Power, 100 credits), and sure sometimes it asks an obscene price for things.

But overall I find this much more enjoyable than the Civ3 AI which simply always asks for too much.

Speaking of tatics, the AI does seem to understand how to launch a multi-faction combined invasion, several times I've had 3 (or even 4!) factions unload a transport of troops in the same turn. Now if only the AI would unload MORE than one transport of troops.....

Hm...I'd rather when you have a tech-lagging submissive they'd ask for decent techs instead of the ones you've just researched. When Lal's still using impact weapons but asks for Advanced Spaceflight or Sentient Econometrics I end up thinking 'hmmmm...aiming a little too high?'

Y'know, they do that in the real world, too. Ask King Fahd how much he paid those South African dudes to fly his AWACS planes in the Gulf War.

"Hey Bob, I've been too embarrassed to ask General Schwarzkopf . . . which end is the front?"

the only time this happend to me was when i was first playing around with the scen editor. after i gave him "0" credits, my game crashed.

                            anyone know why this happens?

I have the idea the AI always askes for 50 energy credits for your opponent's map whether I have like 100 credits or 5000. They even offer the map after the first orbital farm is launched.
