  • Can you help with how to use custom faction

I got a ton of custom factions from network node.

I can sometimes get them to work and other times the game will crash or not run on the faction selection screen. I could not find a clear answer on the right way to get them to work.

Can someone give me a step by step on the right way to do this?

An easy-peasy guide to installing custom factions...

    A: SMAC

    1st way:
    * unzip the files into your SMAC folder
    * at the "select faction" screen, choose load and type in the faction file name without the txt part (eg. AGRI or GENX)

    2nd way:
    * unzip the files into your SMAC folder
    * edit the alpha.txt file in this line:
    #FACTIONS
    GAIANS, GAIANS
    HIVE, HIVE
    UNIV, UNIV
    MORGAN, MORGAN
    SPARTANS, SPARTANS
    BELIEVE, BELIEVE
    PEACE, PEACE
and replace one of the factions with your desired one, for example:

    #FACTIONS
    GAIANS, GAIANS
    HIVE, HIVE
    UNIV, UNIV
    MORGAN, MORGAN
    SPARTANS, SPARTANS
    GENX, GENX
    PEACE, PEACE
so now, when you start the game, you will have the Gen-X faction instead of the Believers.

    B: SMAX

    1st way - as above

2nd way - similar to above but you can change both the #FACTIONS and #NEWFACTIONS lines

3rd way - change the CUSTOMFACTIONS, or something like that , as above

4rd way- load up the bugged Custom Faction Editor and load up the faction in the game, which is exactly the same as letting the computer do the 3rd way instead of you.

But there also seems a problem with some files you can download from the NetworkNode (I can't write down which off from the top of my head right now), you meet lines where instead of the text going into the next line you get a black box. This is probably because Matt uses/used a Mac computer.

    OK now?

    Or is there something else?
