But I'm duely impressed anyway that you were able to determine our average age to several milliseconds
But not smart enough to find a way to determine average value using only "the latest average and the newest value that's added to that average"(this is me talking about mathematics in english). Anyway, now when I mentioned it...who can do it? Someone must know, since this is an intellectual forum for all I know

The average was 29.2380952381 after 21 values. What's the average when one(1) value, 14, is added? Calculate this without including the first 21 values. First one who gets it right...will be quoted by Shai-Hulud!

The average is 28.5454545455 after 22 posts

I am 21, a Virgo, I enjoy long stro- hang on, is this a dating thread in disguise, by any chance? And if it is, is Shai-Hulud the evil mastermind behind it?

So, extrapolating backwards, can we assume that the average age of people here when Civ was released is 18? I can't imagine getting into Civ at 18! I was 11! But then maybe I was a mature 11...

Does that mean I was 6 when Civ came out?
Yeesh! I could hardly get into CivII when I first got it!
Of course, I don't play it at all now - SMAC has overtaken it massively in the popularity stakes. Just things like the fantastic diplomacy (especially the 'full of droids' quote ) and the ability to design your own units elevate SMAC way above CivII.

In a virile human community every thread is a dating thread in disguise

            I was 11! But then maybe I was a mature 11...
I was about that young too . So, is that inordinary, odd, even little freeky?

After twenty-one SMACers have revealed their age the average is somewhere around 29.2380952381
              (29.2something*21 + 14)/23 = Ummmm...
Too much maths in my life. Can't do it anymore. For the formula you have to know the old mean x0 and the number n of people who make up this mean, and the new value x you want to add:

              new mean is (x0*n + x) / (n+1)

You might have remembered the old sum (which is x0*n) of all ages from your last calculation instead of typing everything in your calculator again
              I am smart enough
Fill in the numbers and calculate yourself

              Kölle Alaaf!
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Time to bring the average up a bit. I'm 52.
"THE" plus "IRS" makes "THEIRS". Coincidence? I think not.

                    ...OK...right.

                    Average after 24 is 29.2083333333

(calculated using the famous Adalbertus equation)

                        Tuomerehu,
Aren't you a bit young to be using that kind of language?
"I'm so happy I could go and drive a car crash!"
"What do you mean do I rape strippers too? Is that an insult?"

Kölle alaaf actually does mean something, but the meaning is lost in the abyss of history. There are about eleven different explanations, some of which are "Long live Cologne" or "Cologne over everything else". It is the exclamation of carnival and I couldn't resist using it at the highest festive day of Cologne. I'm sorry for that.
