  • My record. Your records?

I once managed to have a base that had an output of science over 3500. It was half of my total research output.

My record of techs in one turn is 8!
    1 from my research.
    2 from Universal translator
1 from tech Secrets of AC
1 from tech Secrets of creation
    1 from Secrets of Manifold
    2 from Alien artefacts

    Trading with rivals doesn't count!
    Just walk away.

Agreed that trading for techs shouldn't count. But I am of the opinion that researched tech rate before transcendant tech is the important thing. I have never been able to get to more than three per turn (excluding traded tech, aa cash ins, bonus 'secrets' tech or the UT two free techs).

My quickest transcend on regular sized world, random factions, directed research, random map, was 2268 with Uni. I went primarily the builder route although late game wars were inevitable with the Cult and the Believers.

I've managed five, one from research, two from UT, and then beelining with the Secrets techs.

If you ever play a (very tedious) max it out with 511 bases game, even restriting youself to the huge map of planet and not making a mega or gig map, playing on specialist of citzen, you can get a SSC with of 12000 reserach in a turn and get 10 0r more techs just from reserch (at that point you would have used the secretes about a century ago). And in such a max scoring games, if you save most of your artifacts to the end and cash them at the translator, you can easily get over several dozen tech or even over 100 in that turn (max it out by first sweeping the ocean, then doing two or three solar shades and more pods appear) . Explointing the renewable pod bug in smac (the pod stays on the map if a unit pops it when an air unit is over head) you can get more.

Yuck! Sounds like one of Black Sunrise's games. I'd like to add that I only play on Transcend. And that getting a whole mess of tech after you reach Transcendant Though tech shouldn't really count.

Renewable pod bug!!! Cripes, my worst fears are confirmed... I knew that Unity scout chopper had some nefarious purpose... Remind me not to play you guys in MP... Speaking of MP... (insert MariOne's voice here ) Your record vs. the AI is of little interest, tiny man. Try that against a good human player and you will get your a** handed to you, repeatedly. SP is nothing more than virtual w**king - the higher the score, the longer you... Well, you get the idea.

True enough, vitamin j. I only brag about my SP exploits because I still suck at MP. If you learn more from your failures than from your successes then I am still learning big time at MP games.

Hey, RedFred, I was just playing around... I've got no room to talk. I'm in four MP games myself right now, and not exactly breaking any records... I've only "finished" one, a Dominus Transcendi challenge vs. Sikander, in which he conceded pretty early on. I was pretty well ahead, but it was hardly a decisive victory. Which I found out by checking out his saved game later...
I like SP, though I don't play it so much anymore. I think I have a pretty solid SP game. But if you just play long enough, you will break every record, no matter who you are...
Like you said, I'm still learning about SMAC, SP and MP, and I've been playing it for a while. That's why I love it.
