Hi guys. After a hard drive meltdown, i duly installed everything back to normal, after win98, smac/x planetary pack (complete install) went in, for the life of me, i dunno why, i installed the v2.0 (smacx) patch, now the thing is, without the cd in the drive it asked for the cd, so i clicked o.k (without putting in the cd) and it went straight into the game with no probs. I've never installed the v2.0 patch before (obviously) and always had the cd in the drive to play, so, whats happening?

    regards tic

The version of the patch you got must have included a CD-crack.

Email it to me will you? My CD drive is very noisy, and the CD cracks I've gotten my hands on all use the V1.0 executable as the base.

      smac or smax?

Reason I ask is that after the release of smax, players cou no longer play smac without the CD in the drive. smax v 2.0 corrected thsi, so that smac could again be played without the disc, but smax couldn't

Only know cure for smax is the no-cd crack

Googlie. I can play either without the cd in the drive, i thought it odd as i use the planatery pack which has V2.0 already installed. I have re-installed the planatery pack just in case there is a conflict so i have to use the cd again, unless someone else can verify that it's o.k to use the patch just for this purpose and no conflicts are apparent.

I can play my SMAC without the cd with the normal SMAC patch from firaxis. It says some settings wont be available unless i didnt complete install without the cd tho (but i did complete so who cares)
