    first off, I was being peacekeepers under free market, and I get ind. auto. so I goto SE to get my +1 industry bonus off wealth. keep in mind now I had made ZERO contacts so far, cuz I was stuck on some gay small island(not wut i generally like) but when I moved my econ from +2 to +3 my income WENT UP. BUT on the SE screen the only thing that changes between +2 an d+3 is commerce rating, which of course, I had zero contacts.

    Another thing, again as peacekeepers I go like 80% engineers across my empire to start getn all cooky and buy everyone's bases. so I start buying santiago's out. first it was like 400 EC for a size 3-5 base. after like 4 of those it became like 2000 energy credits, and after a few more, it was like 6k energy credits for A SIZE 4. is this some built in "plz dont rape me w/ probes" feature? cuz it really put a damper on my fun.

    On the bribe cost thing . . .My understanding is that these costs are a function of a number of things but that one of those factors is some relation between the base pop and the remaining pop. Therefore it should be easier to probe a base that is 1 of 15 bases but they will get more expensive when you try to probe the last few bases. Also i always understood that the size of the victims treasury was a factor.

    Another possibility . . . in Civ 2 the distance from HQ was a factor as well in determining bribe cost.

      Following up on Flubber:

      As you pick off her bases her # drones will decrease (she'll eventually fall back below the first inefficiency warning). The presence of unmodified drones cheapens the cost to mind control, so their absence will increase the cost.

      Also, she might in the meantime have changed SE's to increase her probe rating (e.g. to Fundy, with its +2 Probe) - I'm doing the same thing as the Pirates (to the Hive) in an SP game I'm playing and that was ventually what Yang did. Instead of paying 500 or 600 for a size 4 base now it's 2200 to 3000. I've moved my sights to Aki, who's running Knowledge (with its -2 probe)

      Sounds like you're in a SMAC game. In SMAX, she might also have built covert operations centers - they give that base a +2 probe rating.

        I think the number of base facilities also matters.

          yah, I knew things like riots and size changed mind control cost, and now I guess I know a buncha other things do too. but can those really sky rocket the cost to over 10x the original?? from 3-400 to 4-6k? cuz thats some damn good probe safeguarding. guess cuz of the drastic change I suspected something different then just the cost to mind control formula.

            As to you other question, you get +1 energy in the base square for each incremenet of Economy rating on the SE scale.

            -2 = 1 energy in base square (without recycling tanks)
            -1 and 0 = 2
            1 = 3
            2 = 4
            3 = 5
            4 = 6
            5 = 7
            6 = 8
            7 = 9 (This would be Morgan on Free Market/Wealth/Eudamonic with Golden Age!)

            Also, commerce increases as a direct function of your economy rating --it's part of the formula.

              really? why doesn't it say that in the SE thing, cuz it doees say it for other econ levels.(the + energy/base) thing.

              is this just an undocumented feature?

                Things affecting mindcontrol:

                Negative:

                Genejack factory
                Negative Probe SE rating
                Smaller number of units inside a base
                Small base size
                Distance from HQ (higher the worse)
                Amount of enegy credits the "defender" has (the lower the worse)
                The "attacker" probe team's morale
                Drone riots
                Was it conquered in last 50 years?
                Low number of base facilities

                Positive:

                Children's Creche
                Punishment Sphere
                The Telepathic Matrix
                The Hunter-Seeker Algorythm
                The NetHack Termitus (me thinks)
                High Probe SE rating
                Large number of units inside a base
                Small base size
                Distance from HQ (the lower the better)
                Amount of energy credits the "defeder" has (the higher the better)
                The "attacker" probe team's morale
                Golden Age (not so sure about that though)
                Good infrastructure (high number of base facilities)
                Nerve Stapling!

                Hope that helps giving some info...

                    Off thread topic, but...

                    Arnie, talk to Darkstar over at FreeFireZone. IIRC, I think he has a P4 with the new Windows and he managed to get SMACX going and eliminate the interceptor crashes at the same time.

                    I think it had something to do with fixing the ForceOldVoxel=1 line.
                    Check the readme.txt if you don't feel like heading over to the other site.

                      Per the readme file, change a AlphaCentauri.ini file line
                      from:
                      ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0

                      to

                        The manual is incorrect wrt to Economy bonuses, but the correct figures do not get better beyond Economy 4. These are what I got from SMACX a minute ago,

                        Econ 0 -- 2 in base square
                        Econ 1 -- 3 in base square
                        Econ 2 -- 3 in base square, +1 in other squares
                        Econ 3 -- 5 in base square, +1 in other squares
                        Econ 4 -- 7 in base square, +1 in other squares

                        Being governor gives you an additional bonus.
