  • Does Alien Crossfire still exist?

When I had first gotten SMAC I had a really crummy computer, and couldn't run it very well, so I had never bothered with the expansion. But now that I have a new computer and with civ 3 coming out, I have regained interest in the game and I'd like to try out the expansion now, only thing is, it doesn't seem to be made or sold anymore, I've checked EB, EA store (directed there by the firaxis website) chips & bits, and amazon, but none of them have it. So, does anyone know if it can still be purchased anywhere? If it's not being made or sold anymore, does anyone know where I can download a copy of it?

A FAQ at Firaxis says that there are no copies in stock at the publisher, EA games and that EA has no plans to make any more. All that is available is a few copies at retailers and used copies listed at web sites like http://www.switchhouse.com/ and ebay.

Half.com might have it, without the bidding aspect. More reliable than ebay, although not perfect. Sure chipsbits doesn't have it? They advertise it here all the time.

Just for the sake of completeness, the Linux version is still being produced by Loki Games (www.lokigames.com). (It says "Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri" on the web site but if you look closely at the text you'll notice it includes Alien Crossfire.)

I bought my copy just last week through a link at Gamespot.com

Thanks to Mark for activating my forum priliveges. I was getting antsy not being able to post to this and other threads.

The actual site that filled the order was Interactcd.com and I payed about about US$ 43 for the game and shipping and handling. I did try some other sites to buy the game but no one had Alien Crossfire in stock. I even tried the EA store that you link to from the Firaxis Games site but even they didn't appear to have Crossfire in stock. It has been two years now since the release of the expansion. I suppose that is why I couldn't find a copy of the expansion at the major retail sites. Shrug.

I have been having a blast with Alien Crossfire, all the new factions and techs are great. Now if I could just figure out how to rescue Aki from the clutches of the planet cult...
