  • Unable to alocate draw-buffer?

Wtf is that? I just bought Alpha Centauri with The expansion in the same box.
Im using Windows 2000 and this is the first time a game wont run on my machine.
P2-450 mhz, TNT 16 mb and 256 mb ram.

Anyone know what might be wrong?
I think I have version 4.0 of the game?

    Thanx for any help...

I used to get that problem all the time. Intermittent crashes?

Just got a new video card 2 months ago, and the problem disappeared. Therefore, I would guess that it is a conflict with the video driver.

You may want to check to see if there is an update available for your current video driver. (We know no updates will be available for smax. )

Any other suggestions on what might couse this problem?
(in case the video driver aint the problem)

When I push "Start New Game" or "Quick Start" or anything like that a small windows box with "Unable to alocate draw-buffer" comes up and the program is terminated.
Must be a Direct Draw buffer? Right?
I can however Load a map into the senario editor but as soon as I try to do something the same error occurs.
There are no visible choises in the left menu either. (there are in the right one though)
But I can load a saved game since I dont have any.
            Just installed the game.
And cant start a new one either becouse of the problem...

            Boring.

I have also tried to disable Direct Draw and the sound but to no prevail.

I would really hate to install a DOS OS just to play a game...
I meen, its the year 2001...

For the Standard SMAC there is a patch that fixes the Draw Buffer problem. Use the Version 4.0 patch from either the SMAC section here or the Firiaxis site for SMAC. I'm not sure about the SMAX patches since I don't have crossfire.

P.S. The patch fixed my draw buffer problem and I have a newer video card than you listed.
