  • And now, for something completely different

As a result of discussion in thread, I have tried that. Replacing mindworms with exploding gravship planetbuster is... something completely different I have just tried three games on transcend level with this and they are quite an experience. By MY 2102, you will probably be notified of major atrocities by "Aliens" (native life), which will promptly cause all factions to declare war on native life (Aliens again) according to UN Charter. Well what do you expect, fungus has just attacked you with nuclear weapons. Nuclear blasts are fission based, meaning that they are relatively weak (in PB rations, ofcourse), but can still wipe out a base and all units in one square radius thus being equal to rarely built fission buster. When a faction is exterminated by, um, exploding worms, it will restart (if the Do or die rule is excluded) as if being normally eradicated. I think that all Apolytoners, and SMACers worldwide should try this, since it is quite an experience.

Playing as Spartans, by 2148, all factions have been eradicated (and restarted) averagely two times, including my own. There was at least 40 planetbuster detonations, and minor craters were visible on map, but since they are fission powered, detonations do not take away large chunks of land away (I think that they only destroyed five or six tiles of land with the craters).

How to do it? Quickest way is to find a line in your Alpha/Alphax.txt file (works for both), find for example mindworm line (you can do it for all lifeforms), and change it to look like this:
    Mind Worms, Gravship, Planet Buster,Psi, 5, 5, 0, CentEmp, 3, 00000000000000000000000000

Since I just tested it for thirty minutes to find out if it works, I will now try to find out the following:
*can this buster worms be captured ( I think they can)
    * how is it to run FM with buster worms, and alter all native lifeforms to buster lifeforms.
*what are the large fung booms like
    *is it possible to transcend
*how does map look like after 200 years.

I shall name this "Something completely different mod". I wonder what will be thoughts of others when they try this. And last thing: Geo, you ARE A LEGEND for conceiving such a thing!

Should be very interesting, indeed! I have played with changing the Locusts to a Nerve Gas tipped missile available with Retroviral Engineering, with limited success - they just don't attack that much, and I've never seen the 8th Faction enable the Nerve Gas. However, I may just make a change to my mod and make the Locusts into Fission PB's! Oooooh, this is gonna be so fun seeing the look of terror on Morgan's face when he realizes he's got umpteen nukes coming at him at once! Bwahahahaaha!

And, as promised to Darsnan, here are the specs I created for this particular 'surprise'.

      Planetoid, Gravship, Planet Buster,Stasis, 5, 0, 0, Disable, 0, 00100000000000000000100000

I've made this up last year (didn't work further on the scenario till recently), but I'm on track again.
The fitting graphics for this unit is an (surprise) asteroid, also, in the scenario, the graphics for PB attack and asteroid impact event have been switched to better fit in this sort of things.

Try altering MWs to PBs and then setting abudant lifeforms. That is incredible!

Geo: it works with my settings too. Perhaps I should better disable such units as build options

Yes, I know, my settings are just a bit more specific for the scenario.

A way to limit the impact is to make the MW PB's needlejets or perhaps choppers, that way they have a shorter lifetime. Some of them might run out of 'fuel' before reaching a desired target.

                Give peace a chance!!!

Btw, was that your voice on the 'something completely different' link? I only hear those words and the PB explosion. Don't know if a video was included as well?

This mod sounds neat! Certainly different.

Do you guys think it would be possible to replace the mind worms with colony pods? Think about it, the alien empire of Centauri.

The 8th Faction won't build cities if given CP's - they just move the units around and around and around.....
I built Alien CP's into a Scenario I made back in October. I also built in Formers, Crawlers, an a host of other units for the 8th Faction. The only thing the 8th Faction will do is attack and destroy, and if a unit can't do that (for whatever reason), why it does nothing with said unit except move it around.
                      Good idea though!

Sounds like those nanotech bombs that you could use if you ran the militant ecologist government choice in CTP.

Are we allowed to mention CTP in here?
