  • How many hours?

Just curious, how many hours do you think you've spent on SMAC total? Every week? I've (only) spent about 30-40 total so far, maybe 2-3 hours a week. Does that make me "casual" around here ?

we're all ashamed to admit how addicted we are

If I could cut down to 2 or 3 hours a DAY I would consider myself casual. This is after a couple of years. Every game is different and entertaining. I still find new techniques/stratagy from reading the posts in these forums, as well as the wonderful guide written by Vel.

I also confess to be addicted. Currently playing 3 to 4 hours a day.

I don't play as much as I used to, but I probably have a few thousands of hours on this game...

My hours at this come in spurts. I spent about 16 hours on the weekend (better half works shiftwork ). I probably won't play again until Thursday when she works again.

Like most here I do find it addictive and have often fallen into the 2am "one-more-turn" syndrome. Real life ( full time job plus part-time graduate student) means that I can never play as often as I would like so I tend to binge whenever I get a golden opportunity.

              IMO not enough.
In my girl-friends opinion, far too many!

To be honest I can't get into it like Colonization or Civ 2.

It's interesting how many mentions Colonization still gets. I loved it in a way, but being honest, I don't think I ever finished a single game, despite hours of playing the thing. It just didn't quite ... hang together somehow. Although there was something about the way it worked that had me hooked.

That's weird, considering SMAC runs 99% on the civ2 engine...

I mean it's odd that you can't get into alpha centauri considering it runs mostly upon the civilization 2 engine/program. They're similar.

I tend to shift from game to game, but when I come back around to SMAC, I find that, strangely enough, that all of the sudden it's friday when I sat down on tuesday . Seriously though, when I get going, I'll go for anywhere from 2-5 hours at a time. That used to be more frequent, but then around September, some place called school sent me a letter saying I had to go there instead .

                              So, it's confession time.

                              If today is any indication...

Up at 7, played 4 PBEM game turns (about 15 minutes each with download, unzip, play, zip, e-mail off, flip to Apoly to log the turn) - so 1 hour give or take ten minutes.

After golf (well, I am on vacation) came back, ten PBEM turns waiting (I'm in 17 games) - 4 hours later, all turns played and now have time to browse the boards.

Still ahead, 2 chapters to write for The Spartan Chronicles

so ........ about 7 hours in a typical day

Sheesh - now that's embarrassing - am I addicted or what?
