I found it interesting the other day when my 9/10 year old cousin started playing my SMAC, he seemed indifferent to commiting atrocities and would sign and break treaties willy-nilly, he said to me: "Have you ever played Red Alert 2? It's really similar to this." I never saw it that way, I've always seen these games as a build and discover (tech-wise) game.
    Is this just me?

Thats what I've been doing lately. I guess I have the atrocity bug or something. I do them as soon as I can. It all started one day when I was minding my own business beating up on Miriam when Lal called me up and wanted some tech. So I say sure if you give me some too and he said that he couldn't trust me with his tech. So I'm like quit wasting my time. Next thing I know one of his units wonders into my territory and I ask him to leave and he say we shall see whose terriory this is and comes up with planes and missiles attacking my cities. So I gear up with the gas and start letting loose. I just didn't take his bases I exterminated them. Now I'm like Human rights, we don't need no stinking Human Rights.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Hmmm, no human rights eh? SOUNDS FUN!!
I suppose you could play the game a bit like RA2 (esp. if Miriam on citizen), funny was tho, he chose UoP, and after careful deliberation too!

          Ho-hum, 9 year olds eh?
