  • Something between SMAC and CivIII

This post obviously belongs elsewhere on these boards, but what respectable SMACer ever goes to the CTP forum?

IGN got a look at an early build of CTPII...
a couple of points really got my attention (and I never played CTP 1 so they might be there as well...)

    A) Feats of Wonder - temp bonuses for doing certain things. They example they gave was that if you are the first civ to circle the globe, you get a sea movement bonus for a few turns.

    B) National management. You can have all your cities do something, for example, once you discovered the tech for city walls, you can set all your cities to building them without having to go into each city. And you can selectivly take cities out of the national model.

The web post is at: http://pc.ign.com/previews/14118.html

Agree that CTP has a slight edge on SMAC/X in terms of management. I'm sure Cive III will take a few pages out of the CTP book, especially in the area of making it easier to manage a large empire.

However, it strikes me that the Feats of Wonder are not really anything new. CTP's WoWs expire quite quickly and are not very attractive to build except for score purposes.

And SMAC/X does give a concrete bonus with discovery of SP Secrets (of the Human Brain, etc.).

Still, SMAC/X's recognition of other "firsts" only amounts to a verbal attaboy in the pyramid screen--it would be good to get something substantial.

There is only one automation I would like to have and that is changing specialist. I hope CTP2 will be good though.

It's looking very promising. And we've had plenty of interaction with them in the forums, so we can actually get some important points accross. Time is running out though, so if you want to make a point to them, hop to it!
