Rescuing Faction Leader - Multiplayer Question

Situation: multiplayer SMAX game with 2 human (Gaian and PK) and 5 AI (all nasty Aliens). One human is likely to be eliminated by the AI due to horrible bad luck (landed right by Marr). If I (Gaian) rescue him (PK) will he restart as multiplayer? Or will this revert to an AI, which can be turned over to the human? Has anyone seen this situation before?

I'm pretty sure you'll never get the chance to rescue him. I think the game will end upon his elimination.

How exactly do you enforce a submissive pact with a human player? Rescued faction leaders are automatically submissive.
