  • Honoring our favourite soldiers

So let's face it, we didn't win this game by being friendly. If we wouldn't have had our boys in the field out to bully all the other factions around, we would have lost. So before we forget all about them, let's pay our respects.

I for one, give a big shout out to the "Disco Volante" !

The Disco Volante is a 2t armored probe cruiser. It was popped from a pod in a time where massively upgraded crawlers were of limited use. I dare say this ship brought us more advantages that a crawler ever could.

It was a constant presence and sentinel in the oceans, but I remember a few occasions where it really shined.
    • It stole bio-engineering from Morgan, enabling us to get fusion the next turn
    • It was part of the probe duo which infiltrated and stole tech from the Angels, allowing us to build the HSA
    • It helped in the probe fight to MC the first base in the Morgan invasion, thereby acquiring a healthy sized air and land force

    ... Anything else?

Also, one of the reasons I am so proud of her is that I named her

Which was your favourite unit? Maybe the other factions had units they were proud of too?

    Our landtransport.
Ah, and if only I went ahead and sunk that ship when I had it in my haircross...

We saw that - we were wondering if it was particularly useful, was it?

If any faction would have so much as dented the hull of that ship, I swear they would have woken up dead the next morning.

So what, that was the Spartan plan anyway.

And yes, that land transport has shown its uses in a case or two before I went on holiday. Don't know from afterwards. You have to ask Mart7x5 for that. 't Was his baby btw.

Well yes, but the original plan didn't include turning off the alarm clock so that you would oversleep. muahahaha!

Uhm, anyway. I continued my research of the Disco Volante this morning. I believe that I am the top scholar in this particular field. I will be applying for a teaching position at Mendelev College.

This is a more detailed biography of the Disco Volante:
          • 2157: Popped from a pod
          • 2158: Journeys southward to scout the Angels/Gaians
          • 2165: Pops 100 credits
          • 2166: Pops 75 credits
          • 2169: Pops a fungal gin freighter for Iaci base
          • 2171: Stops by Lily of the Valley and exchanges pleasentries (according to Googlie) with adjacent Angel foil probe
          • 2177: Pops a ... former ? ("encountered an Angels foil transport and inadvertently popped a pod while moving from it – got a former completion")
          • 2179: Scouts Mart Pact
          • 2181: Probe garrisons UN Aid Station
          • 2185: Steals Superstring Theory from Yang, promoted to Commando
          • 2187: Infiltrates Data Angels
          • 2192: Steals Biological Engineering from Morgan Corporation
          • 2199: Mind controls Choke on This from Morgan Corporation

          Oh the glory.

Also, during its career, it popped 4 IoD's.

EDIT: Pleasantries indeed, apparently the Angels were plotting to sink the Disco Volante

(PS. Using search on the forums is way cool )

There are 2 units that come to my mind.
Being in charge of faction operations there were 2 distinct units in military

            2146
In an attack on 2 mindworm boils near Hive border during escort of a probe team operation a scout rover got 0 (zero) damage. Its morale went from green to disciplined and planetpearls gave 40 EC. Excellent unit.

            2182
Sioux copter from Hercules Station attacked the spore launcher near Hive border. That was their first and last action as it was completely destroyed. Their chances were 27:14 yet still they lost. Spore Launcher had 90% damage. Plasma defender completed the kill. A blunder in DA military training.

Looks like Spartans did more probe actions than us.
We were not very lucky in this game as for probing. Only infiltration of Morgan was a good one.

We had problems with Yang and after like 3 attempts to infiltrate by land we finally did it by sea with a foil probe.
I got one tech from Hive by infiltration. That was just after Spartan infiltration, secret action, I even did not report it.
Hercules possibly did more during his dictatorship

                Oh, the LIT
                Light Infantry Transport
It costed 1 mineral/turn and many say it is not worth it, but I think it is and in some cases even more than these 50-80 (around) minerals you pay for it in a game.

Formers that are transported by it get an additional turn of terraforming, if handled properly. If it can give a forest one turn earlier, for example you get additional resources already, so it pays for itself.

It helps also when fast relocation of units is needed. Once I remember we moved a rover 9 tiles thanks to it for security of a base, otherwise empty. Imagine this prevents for example loss of this base. How can you set a price for something like that? 50 minerals + lost energy income etc.

And ofcourse, attack of bases with infantry (+25%) with full move point, when they are not elite. but we never had chance for this
