They are holding the turn awaiting our response.

(And I voted for # 6 - we pay reparations, support their bid in a future vote for Governor, but they deliver Int Int in 5 or 6 years (asap, in other words)

Nice plan, definately worth trying. I don't think they'll go for it, but hey, they just might.
      Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

Hmm - maybe it's time for our equivalent of "To refrain from crushing you like a bug" response:

Suggested post in the Morgan Embassy

The Junta has met and these are the results of our deliberations

While we understand the Corporation's annoyance at the loss of a valuable unit, we draw the Corporation's attention to the Manual for Diplomacy, page 130, which reads (our italics):

Probe teams cannot attack other units directly, but they can battle one another to the death. Probe Team combat is based on the morale of the combatants.
Probe Teams can attack other teams even in squares containing other units. Since Probe Teams have no “official” existence, destroying another faction’s Probe Teams does not violate a treaty or pact.

Accordingly we offer the Corporation one of 3 alternatives:
        • In the spirit of the Manual, continue as if nothing has happened (ie, as if we had infiltrated at Red Fungus Resort) - all Treaty obligations remain in effect
        • The Sparta Federation will offer the Corporation a 52 energy credits offset against treaty payment obligations, to recognize the loss of the Defense Attorney, and will transfer the technologies of Social Psych and Doctrine: Loyalty to the Corporation in exchange for which the Corporation will deliver to the Federation as soon as possible the technology of Intellectual Integrity.
        • The Federation will sympathetically consider a request - backed by suitable inducements - to support a vote for Morgan as Planetary Governor
Let's not give the ship away - after all, we are in the position of strength here.

        G.

I'm dead tired, and I'll fall asleep on the keyboard right after posting this. That said, I agree with your proposal. We want IntInt and can't research it alone, so that trade is logical. Also, we did destroy a probe team and they have some right to get compensation for it. (Why you suggested 52 ec's when they had already said 50 I don't know but hey everything seems to be working out )

And I'm not sure it's wise to back them up for governor when the time comes... Why give them extra trade money and free infiltrations?

            Remove this part:

"(ie, as if we had infiltrated at Red Fungus Resort)"

Leave the "as if nothing happened" statement only. It sounds much more confident that way.

The "consider a request" part does not constitute an agreement, so we can leave it that way. Once the election is close, they'll be kindly reminded that we did not promise anything.
            Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

I toughened it slightly, making it a tad more threatening:

Posted by Googlie in the Embassy

The Junta has met and these are the results of our deliberations

While we understand the Corporation's annoyance at the loss of a valuable unit, we draw the Corporation's attention to our Spartan Battle Manual, ( which we believe has a Corporation counterpart - the Morgan Business Manual) page 130, which reads (our italics):

Probe teams cannot attack other units directly, but they can battle one another to the death. Probe Team combat is based on the morale of the combatants.
Probe Teams can attack other teams even in squares containing other units. Since Probe Teams have no "official" existence, destroying another faction's Probe Teams does not violate a treaty or pact
              .

Accordingly we offer the Corporation one of 2 alternatives:

              1) In the spirit of the Manual, continue as if nothing has happened

              or

              2) The Sparta Federation will:

              > offer the Corporation a 50 ec credit against treaty payment obligations, to recognize the loss of the Defense Attorney,
              > guarantee not to initiate any hostile action for the ten year duration of this current treaty,
              > transfer the technologies of Social Psych and Doctrine: Loyalty to the Corporation
              > in exchange for which the Corporation will deliver to the Federation as soon as possible the technology of Intellectual Integrity.

With either of those alternatives, The Federation will sympathetically consider a request - backed by suitable inducements - to support a vote for Morgan as Planetary Governor

(Of course, a third option - vendetta - is always an alternative open to the Corporation)

We look forward to learning of your choice in this matter

              Lieutenant-Colonel Googlie
