  • On Trading Ethical Calculus

Recognizing that this is such a key tech to allow switches to Dem, creches and pop-booming, how about this type of message in all 3 embassies:

The Spartan Federation has acquired the technology of Ethical Calculus, a key technology in enabling growth and prosperity on Chiron, and the Junta has been considering how best to relase this to other factions.

We do realize its importance to other factions (with its concomitant benefits - the building of Childrens' Creches and changing to a Democratic social engineering choice, which together with running a Planned economy greatly facilitates population growth - especially for those factions having the Gene Splicing technology)

For us, too, Ethical Calculus is a key technology, but for different reasons, as it is a key building block to a critical defense technology.

Thus we have decided to make it available to other factions only be on the following terms, which are not negotiable:
    • Factions will pay an annual "technology licence fee" to the Spartan Federation of 15 ec's for 10 years. (At any time the balance of the 150 ec's price can be paid as a lump sum)
    • There would be a trade embargo to third parties for that same period of ten (10) years (and is not foreshortened by a lump sum payment)
    • Any faction so acquiring Ethical Calculus from the Spartan Federation will undertake not to build the Citizens' Defense Force Special Project upon researching or acquiring Intellectual Integrity (As we prepare for inevitable conflict with the Hive and their repressive regime - we are only a handful of tiles removed from them - we need the certainty of a secure defense system)
Any faction accepting this arrangement can have the technology, pre-accepted, this current year, 2143, for implementation next year.

    Major Kassiopeia
    By Order of the Junta

Any comments on this suggested approach?

Good idea Licensing technology, gotta love it
But I am confused. In 1§ you are saying 15 ec for 10 years and then in 2§ you are saying the embargo is for that same period 15 years.

      Ah, yes.

Now corrected (the first draft, some days ago, had a longer licence period as well)

        I like the idea.

Another possibility is to charge an initial installation fee of x credits, and then have a additional licensing fee of y credits per year for z years. This gives us some money quickly... So for instance with x=50, y=10, z=10 we get the same total amount of cash, but get more of it early, and money in the bank is good

It also doesn't really sound much worse on the receiving end ... We can even lower y and/or z and it could still be better for us.

Of course it all depends on if we can find something to do with the money immediately.

at the OP. Maybe make a few of those inconsequential changes that make it sound more like written by me, but otherwise.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

            Abstain.
This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.
