  • Will we probe-rape Yang?

IIRC it has been suggested by Zeiter to probe-rape Yang within the next ten years or so. Lots of tech, but also a vendetta with Yang.

I was wondering, did people agree with that suggestion, or did it remain in the phase of suggestion?

We should end up with a vendetta with Yang sooner or later, I'd rather hope we'd be prepped well for it, and can take as big an advantage of it as possible.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

These are the techs that he currently has that we lack:

      Progenitor Psych
      Social Psych
      PolySoft
      Doc Loyalty
      and
      Optical Computers (in 3 years)

The first 2 are ones that we can get from the other teams, Polysoft (for me) is just an inconvenient stepping stone to Adaptive Doctrine's Marines and the Advanced Subatomic >>> Applied Relativity (Superconductor) chain (do any of you go for Polysoft to actually build arty?) as well as to AMA's AAA capability.

Optical Computers is AMA's other prereq as well as being in the Superconductor (Gatling level-5 weapons) and Applied Relativity chain

I'd see the more likely scenario over the next decade re yang to be to hope that he quickly completes the Command Nexus so that when we next call him to inquire about buying a tech he again offers Doc Loyalty

A fall back would be to go after him with some five or 6 probes simultaneously, taking everything he has (and undoubtedly ending in vendetta with him). But that needs to be after our uni excursion, otherwise we'll be stretched far too thin militarily

So, while these techs are useful for specialized units (I can't see us ever competing for the Supercollider), I'd much rather get Doctrine Loyallty, which we need to go for the CDF (which of course Yang won't build). But we can't choose which tech to steal, just limit the possibilities by shrewd acquiring of alternative techs through trades and other techsteals.

doc:loyalty is really the only one I could see as being of any use to us right now. Shall we entertain the idea of subsidizing a probing of Yang for doc:loyalty to the Gaians?

Here's another thing to consider too: When we do acquire all of these techs, our powergraph is going to shoot through the roof. Thus, we need to be very careful about it, because it could put us in an unfavorable position diplomatically. We're already the first human team on the powergraph chart, right?
Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

          Not on purpouse.
But I usually pick up Polymorphic Software by accident, or cause I'm forced to due to the choices after a breakthrough.

I actually do build a few arty units. Surprises the **** outa people when I blow their foilprobes outa the water with one shot (an excellent exchange in the minerals department). Also to bombard an approaching stack of enemy units before a banzai sortie from one of my bases. Dueling with naval coastal raiders etc.

          Edit:

I had one game where I built (1)-1-1 police units. Every turn they bombarded fungus tiles within my base perimeters. Doubled up as police units for double role. Cheap and extremely versatile. people were e-mailing me asking how I knew where there units were hiding all the time. They thought I had discovered a cheat that was unheard of. All I was doing was shelling fungus tiles (land and sea), while sitting in my bases. When I discovered something, I would send in one of my precious few aircraft and/or empath laser rovers to kill it. (snicker).

I called these guys "pop cops".
(pop for popping off shells, cops is slang in North America for police)

This is what it means to be a Spartan. It's not the killing or the suffering that matters. It's the purity of focus, without fear of death or pain.
